Moderators far too strict here

Postby skybound® » Wed Mar 08, 2006 12:47 pm

Guys this forum I feel is far too strict regarding moderation. Either that or post are still disappearing.

I made a humorous comment (well in my mind at least) on the RV & RVforker's Explorer project, and bang it has been deleted.

What is with that?

It was me  and there was nothing wrong with your statement. I had to split one post into 2 and move them into the Technical section. You can't copy and paste, i.e. leave the original in the Hangar Talk section and have a copy in Technical. The plan is to have one per project that we all can follow but to keep the unnecessary banter down to just that which is relevant for the project. I edited out all the non-project type comments. You will notice on the RV sometime project there is a lot of conversation re the pics etc, I plan to edit out all that stuff once the pics have been posted. This way we will have a nice succinct progress of each build.

No offence intended and I will not edit anything else out that you say unless I don't like it of course  :D (don't take me serious)

Sheez okes it is not as if there are 40 pages on the topic!

I would suggest that a guideline is developed as to what is deemed to be unnecessary banter. At present it is very subjective.

For instance, I would regard all the banter regarding how to post pics should also come out of that post. They could be kept to PM's if we are being strict about the content of a thread.

I agree re the banter on pics and they will come out once the pics have been posted and once again I am sorry

We don't have a policy on banter nor do I for one want one. This is what makes the forum strong and successfull. It was in the process of moving them across and trying to set up the project posts. The one topic was hijacked by a number of different individuals and in order to split them I had to make a decision as to what goes and stays.

Let me explain it this way, you make a post re subject A, halfway down someone else makes a post re subject B. You come back and make another comment re A. Now If I split that post at the point where B was posted, everything after that point would be found in the B post and not the A. Any comments you made regarding A would now be in the wrong post and not be relevant. There is no way of copying your post back to the original post.

I don't like censorship and in fact the only time I have ever had to delete a post intentionally was due to some unnecessay racist remarks. However this I did after consulting with Demon and mentioning the issue to the individual concerned who graciously conceeded and no harm was done.

Apart from that Demon has had to clean up old posts and during the migration of this forum from the old to new service provider over the last few weeks I believe some posts went missing. These are not intentional and were unfortunate instances.

Without some guideline Morpheus, I think you are setting yourself up for some flack.

I agree with deleting the hate speech, porn and the likes. There is no room for that. Deleting a non harmfull post as you decided it so, is not so good.

BTW - you can split a topic in the manner to keep subject matter A and B in their respective new threads. If you have a look at the two options you have available at the time of doing the split you can either:

- Split from selected post
OR
- Split the selected posts.

Using the second option you can select all the individual posts that belong to topic A and split them out, leaving all posts relevant to B behind.

Thanks I'll look at that next time.
