Foreign back-up
I had a prop strike in the height of the Plettenbergbay season on my Airborne Edge XT912. This happened on Tuesday December 22nd. I emailed them but due to time differences they only received my order on their Wednesday morning. On Friday mid morning I received a call from my clearing agents that th...

Trike article
I have been offline for 10 days and missed the earlier thread about the XT912 article – heavy rains have taken out my landline not to mention both my hangar and home being flooded twice in two weeks. With regard to the trike article appearing in Aviation and Safety magazine – the artic...

Hi Skybound I have only done conventional gliding at Magalies Gliding Club which I think is the biggest SA club - they don't drop the line. It's the duty officers job to ensure noone is snagged on landing. I have been to Wallaby Ranch the biggest aerotow operators in the world. This is where I was t...

Aerotowing
We've also hooked a coupled of things with the tow rope - like a gazebo tent when towing for a film shoot in Cape Town and the hangglider dolly also chased us at high speed down the runway after being hooked on landing .If it's a solid item the weeklink breaks immediately as it should.

Aerotowing
The trike you saw belongs to Thermal Riders Aerotow syndicate which operates out of Aviators Paradise – a field just to the north west of Harties dam wall. The trike is an AirBorne Edge X 582 coupled with AirBornes Wizard wing and their certified aerotow system. The tow point is just behind t...

Double surface vs single surface
Double surface wings have the cross bar enclosed in between the top and bottem wing surfaces, these are faster wings due to less drag. Single surface wings have the crossbar exposed. Single surface wings are great for quick rigging and slow flight. The hangglider aerotow trikes are usually single su...

Topless
There are two in Knysna at Warren Rosewell's field one a double surface single seater and the other a dual seat version. Both of them are North Wing trikes - very fast and good finishes as with most imports. Both are brand new. Both are owned by Tom who at 79 is not flying trikes regularly - most pr...
