Re: Rotax and Foxbat Pilots
Question: (Note** I may be referring to some other? carb vent line or even carb overflow cup drain) Apparently the official rotax cold air induction box has connectors for these carb vent pipes. In other words Rotax wants the pressure in these to be carb intake pressure for correct mixture regardles...

Re: TOYOTA YARIS ENGINE
That price is not very attractive & I see no history of this company's designs
how about this one $ 9900 for low milage Honda Jazz engine with proper gearbox RD. or $13800 with brand new engine.

Re: 912S Should not run under 5000 rpm
This super conservative aviation industry never ceases to amaze me. The Automotive industry faces precisely the same issues, & they quietly got their engineers to fix it (decades ago), by measuring & controlling the MOST important parameter in any engine - ie. knock sensors All we get from 200k ratt...

Have you touched base with James Braid (jbraid.wits at gmail.com), the floppies are also going to be in the environs, they have over the last few years visited just about every 1 horse there. may as well share info & thoughts on where the trough line is overdeveloping.
Enjoy

Re: KERS and Aero Engines ?
There are some interesting possibilities and warrant some debate. That's the spirit. :) When I say zero applicability I mean: Most aircraft take off at 100% power & cruise @ 75%. SO this is postulating - store some energy during runnup, take off @ 125% & cruise @ 100%. I just don't want to fly it. ...

Re: KERS and Aero Engines ?
I would say KERS has zero applicability in aviation
KERS is all about storing energy that would otherwise be wasted in the brake cooling systems

Re: AVAILABILITY OF FUEL ON RUNWAYS.
Ive had a good experience at the outpost of Solitaire in nam (FYSO) Petrol station 500m from strip. The locals also drop in there regularly for coffee & apple strudel. I also have B&B contacts in De Aar that bring Jerry cans to the field. Would really like to organise B&B to fetch & carry in Keetman...

Re: AVAILABILITY OF FUEL ON RUNWAYS.
I'm not a trike piloot, this is a third hand story of a mate of mine who got a trike specifically to fly this barnstorming trip up the east coast from knysna to kenya & back (< 100h exp). He did it with his fishing gear in the wing & 6 months of Africa time. Staying weeks at a time if fishing & frie...

Re: Fact or Fiction - 503/582s discontinued
Imagine if Bombardier would bring out a engine similar to the 503 but using their Evinrude/Johnson Direct injection system.
The result would be same power to weight, but fuel consumption closer to a 4 stroke

Re: 912 Tuning question
WOT=wide open throttle Airframe is a Lambada motorglider Low cruse is 90kt, hi cruise is 100kt (not a quickie) & approx 15lt/h. I have no flow meter I just want to understand what the design tuning is & how much richer it runs @ WOT, if at all WOT is in theory the most efficient throttle setting but...

912 Tuning question
Does anyone have a link to documentation describing the tuning methods AND the philosophy behind it ? I have looked at the standard maintenance docs etc but nothing on tuning In particular I want to figure out whether(how) the needles are profiled for richer at WOT etc. (like Jabi) FYI I run mine wi...

Re: Building the new Bushbaby SAFARI
Sorted out the small problem that creep in to all new aeroplanes. Fuel lines sucking air Enjoy the thread Oupa G You guys definitley know what you're talking about !! There is a lot of hysteria in aviation regarding Fuel vapourisation, particularly with Mogas & Particularly with Low Wing AC. I know...

Re: expansion bottle - overflow - 912s
You are definitely getting boiling in the engine, this is BAD because a layer of steam will insulate the Cylinder head from the Water and heat transfer will drop, resulting in hotspots. In my opinion 110 deg C is pretty high for CHT Now Rotax seems to address this by changing their coolant recomenda...

Re: Close call and my first skidmarks!
Wind direction often changes at the inversion, & that is a horizontal shear. which causes + or - airspeed changes & shake & rattle type turbulence in the narrow the shear layer. The coastal inversion in the piketberg valley is normally LOW at about 3000 ft (but still well above wallaby's position), ...
