Hi Jean & Rudi,

Jean, man it's hard not to let the cat out of the bag. But this time round I'll try my utmost best. Let everything materialize first. Then I'll discuss it over here. It'll be EXACTLY what I wanted. That new Cubby of yours sure is one sexy looking aircraft. Congrats with the new upgrade. Now your Cubbies will compare with the best out there.

Rudi, I've been bragging about your average racing speed of 185mph on the KR2 forum. The guys find that hard to believe. So I posted a pic of your turbocharger. I see quite a few downloaded it. Yes, hopefully we'll fly together again in the near future. I am so much looking forward to it. I will most definitely ask for the recipe of that monster Type IV VW of yours. That white KR2 of yours must be one of the most sexy KR2s I've yet seen pics of. And it surely must be one of the fastest flying on a VW! The only faster one I know of did 192mph, but it had much shorter wings & thus a higher stall & landing speed.

Recently I've found pictures of my 1st KR2 project that I completed in the mid 1980s. Also of the KR1 that I partially rebuilt a few years later. Will take photos of those pics & post here soon. Shame, I also found some of the much older pics of Sakkie Hallgreen & ZS-UKU. I feel so sorry for him. Building his KR2 & house at the same time with so much dreams for the future. He was so super conservative and yet someone else' stupidity cost him his life - putting lead in your spinner to compensate for a too far aft CG. The KR2 does not like spins - to enter into a spin in a too far aft cg configuration in a KR2 is going to cost you your life, that's for sure! All Sakkie did was test fly someone else's finished project. To this day I wonder if he knew about the lead in the prop spinner which cost him & the builder their lives.

My work keeps me rather busy at the moment. But it's nice to be able to dream once again after being wiped out totally financially.

Keep well all,

Henni

Hi All,

My apologies - let the cat out of the bag prematurely. Might as well start to build from scratch.

Groete,
Rudi

Thank you Rudix for agreeing to sell your project to me.

The following pics show this project as is and the only modifications I plan to add to it (described in photo captions)

Hi Hennie

Hoekom so baie modifications, hou die vliegtuig so basic as moontlik. Mods sit gewig by en gewig maak performance dood.

Hi Hans,

Neuswiel is castering, so nie baie werk nodig nie.

Lees my verhaal erens op hierdie thread.

Vriendelike groete,

Henni

From a KR2 newsletter:

If you were going to improve the performance of your aircraft,
what single i tem would give the best results for the least amount
of work? I mean a real improvement as much as a 20% decrease in
parasite drag , I'll give you a hint, one of the greatest sources
of parasite drag is the cooling system of an air-cooled engine ,
You EAA guys know by now what I'm talking about • • • a cowl flap. This
is the easiest, most effective, single thing you can do to increase the
performance of your aircraft.

Hi all,

This KR1 & KR2 each have a confirmed level flight top speed of 230mph. The KR2 has normal length wings & uses a 120hp Continental engine.

Cheers,

Hennie

Hi all,

Secured her engine. It will come home with her on 29th July 2017. It is everything that I've wanted & much more reliable than the Rotax 583 originally considered. This will be one very light, very roomy KR2. And performance should not be too bad either. She will take off & land like a microlight, that's for sure! a Very long runway would not be required at all, I'll make absolutely sure of that.

I purchased two new gazebos that will be used to house her outside & also where construction would commence. I think I am now mostly set up and progress photos should once again follow shortly. This KR2 will be unique at least in South Africa.

This is what it will feel like to fly in her:

Cheers all,
