Rather go for the Garmin G5, very nice, I use one and what a great EFIS. There are two versions, a certified and a non certified one. The unit, stand-by battery, install kit and internal antenna will set you back $1 478. You then have to ship it and pay VAT, as with any import. It is a Garmin and works very well. Very user friendly and all you need in one instrument and it fits into a normal instrument hole.

Do try the "Kwik EFIS" offered for free by Ninelima. I have it on my phone and it works very well. There is a long discussion on AVCOM (Android in the cockpit) about it and SAFlyer mag also talks about it. And it is free, no strings attached, no hidden agenda.

Download it, try it, use it, loose it. You don't have to bet your life on it, but a nice to have if you get lost. Together with your GPS it will take you home, or at least let you have the answers on ATC questions. We do not have the luxury of large instrument panels and lots of battery power in our small aircraft, so let this app run on your mobile phone, which you have with you in any case.

I can really recommend the Garmin equipment. We use a dual screen Garmin G3X at the moment with a Belite Radiant TSI as backup. If my budget and panel space allowed it, we would have gone with the G5. It looks like a fantastic piece of kit.

You will notice that Kwik EFIS in portrait mode looks similar to the G3X I primarily developed it as a cheap display for the GIB (Guy In Back).

hell I would reccomend airnav pro then, it uses your ipad/iphone gps, can connect to external gps devices, actually uses aviation maps, has hazards etc and has a efis with topographical info on it, this however is not free.....
I have used this on a few flights and I love it. it just drains my ipad battery, so might need to fly with a power bank for longer flights.

It has been a pretty eventful time in terms of Kwik EFIS development. The application now features much improved synthetic vision performance, much more coverage and also voice alerts.

And ... would you you believe it! We have gone international. In addition to our Ozies and Saffers, we now have American, German and even Russian (Спасибо, Юрий) users.

Kwik EFIS V3.2 has been flight tested and the stable (unsigned) release candidate can be downloaded from:

Note:
This version of Kwik EFIS has also been released to F-Droid for signing and distribution. There is a unfortunately bit of a technical delay with the data pacs. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and signed app and data packages will be available from F-Droid as a signed and certified package.
