Skills test
Well i had a wonderful time flying, DNP is running like a dream. Had a look down the carb inlets and it looks like brand new. Got new Hangarage at Morningstar. Did dual check, clocked up 8 hours. DNP turned 200hours old. Did several crosswind landings at Morningstar (not something you get to do alot at Fisantekraal!!) and at the last minute descided I need to do my license renewal paperwork and discovered that now i need to do a "skills Test" .
anyway it was way to late to do that so I will have to do that when I get back.
What exactly is a skills test?

Re: Skills test
Should be the same 'dual time' with instructor, just formally being evaluated on specific procedures. (and paying for it)

Re: Skills test
I did a Skills test last week after completing my conversion from Touring Motor Glider to NPL. The Skills Test entails a full flight test; ie pre-flight, take-off, pre-cautionary & emergency landings, Stalls, radio procedures etc etc.
Full Skills Test form available on RAASA's website.

Re: Skills test
Iesh, that is what i was worried it was:( OK. will have to book one for first thing when i get back to Cape Town and then hope my licence is renewed before I have to go back to work. If not, that will be a full 7 months of no flying again with work commitments:(Technocrat wrote:I did a Skills test last week after completing my conversion from Touring Motor Glider to NPL. Re: Skills test
Skills test is only an hour and if you are worried about the test then you should not be flying. It's not a test as such but an evaluation of your skill and to see if you have not picked up some bad habbits during your flying career. Enjoy And Happy new year to all

Re: Skills test
Not particularly worried about the test (I had a dual check before I could fly in November) the problem is time. I will be in CT for a month in Feb. With the weather its often a week before you can organise a test. Then how long to get it processed and then my month will almost be gone And I will not be back in SA before August again. Then my ATF is due for renewal... I love flying it just seems i do more paperwork than flying:(KFA wrote:Skills test is only an hour and if you are worried about the test then you should not be flying. Re: Skills test
Nope, that's changed
you have to do a skills test at every renewal, irrespective of the amount of hours you have flown, and you have a choice of for one year or two. Makes sense to go for the two.

Re: Skills test
Jup, new requirement. Doesn't matter how many hours you have you still have to redo the skills test. I did it with Louis at Fisantekraal. After 3 weeks of waiting to get a gap with weather and other things.
Verbal theory and then like a mini flight test including stalls, etc. I think the emphasis is more too eliminate bad habits and reinforce training than trying to fail someone. The instructor has to be someone other than your flight instructor. There is a minimum time for the test, cannot remember how long now.
It was nerve racking for me... 3 months with no flying, strange "pap" feeling trike, instructor on my shoulder and crosswind. And Jetranger sending another student solo...

Rather the pap feeling than going up alone.Biggles wrote:It was nerve racking for me... 3 months with no flying, strange "pap" feeling trike, instructor on my shoulder and crosswind. And Jetranger sending another student solo...
There is no requirement for it to be another instructor. That is when you are doing your training, then another instructor needs to do a flight test.
In this case you can use your favorite instructor.

Re: Skills test
What is the maximum time period for a lapsed license before they require you to do the full license again?
