Fire Ex, First Aid and Intercepts

Postby RV4ker (RIP) » Mon Nov 09, 2009 7:51 pm

I get the ball rolling.... (These were unanswered from the previous thread)

Can we fit any fire extinguisher? (Non halon?) - Please clarify the situation
Can we use any first aid kit? - Ditto on the situation? (I have CAA approved first aid kits in all my aeries, but it was moer expensive. They don't look much different to the ones I have in my car)
Must you carry international intercept signals?

Thanks

should, where possible, be available for use on the ground.
2. + indicates aircraft with more than 9 passenger seats installed.
(2) Unless the standard first aid kit is clearly visible, its location must be indicated
by a placard or sign, and appropriate symbols may be used to supplement
the placard or sign.

accessible for use.

91.04.21 HAND FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
2. Hand fire extinguishers

I know what CATS say. I want to know if applicable to trikes and smaller 3 axis aeries....

The items in red below are surely not applicable... IMHO Reg written for larger aeries. Why would you need splints? (Use broken aerie or tree branch.) Why 2 languages? (Just curious)

Fire reg's written for big aeries, and IMHO not applicable to small 2 seaters or trikes....

VOL 2 AVIATION LEGISLATION IN SOUTHERN AFRICA.

OPERATION OF NON TYPE CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT (PART 94)

94:06.7....(1).EXEMPTIONS

(1). AMATURE BUILT, PRODUCTION BUILT AIRCRAFT INCLUDING MICROLIGHT AEROPLANES ARE EXEMPT FROM CARRYING A 1st AID KIT AND A FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

94.06.7...(2). CONDITIONS OF FLIGHT

(2). NO MICROLIGHT AEROPLANE SHALL BE OPERATED ABOVE 500 feet, UNLESS FITTED WITH

(a). AN APPROVED SERVICEABLE COMPASS.
(b). AN ALTIMETER THAT IS ACCURATE TO WITHIN APPROX 100 feet.
.............................

SO THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION IS, YOU DO NOT NEED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND A 1st AID KIT.

But having said the above, personally in a conventional microlight, I would carry a fire extinguisher and a 1st aid kit for obvious safety reasons.

On a trike....the decision is yours.....but personally, I would carry a 1st aid kit...(if I was able to carry a fire extinguisher SAFELY, then I would also personally carry one).
..........................
Signals........CARs Vol 2, SUBPART 3, 91.03.1

A LIST of visual signals for use by intercepting and intercepted aircraft...(JUST THE LIST).

Personally, I would carry a Space blanket which if need be can be cut into viz signals if need be.
.....

Should you decide to carry a fire extinguisher, the onus is on yourself as to what type you want to carry.

1st aid kit.......take the list, (91.04.16 Standard 1st Aid Kit), to a chemist and you will find that the price is negligible to the price of your childs life........(or your own), .....there the onus is on yourself to what you feel is relevent......

DOCUMENTATION CARRIED NEEDS TO BE EITHER THE ORIGINAL OR A CERTIFIED COPY.

The certified copy is valid as long as the original document is valid.

Thanks,
Chris B.

Excellent.

I agree that it a good idea to carry the above, I just want to make sure I am not grounded for not having splints which IMHO are pointless. Ditto on the fire ex. I carry one (but more for use on ground than in air). If I have inflight fire I will land before I try to put out fire in flight so Halon not necessary IMHO. Just me, but I think I have more chance of walking away even if off field landing on fire than dousing a fire and trying to fly the plane home. I don't tend to fly that high and even from FL095 descent can be brisk when necessary.....

Thanks Chom.... (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^)
