Challanger II, 503 DCDI propeller

Postby RSS » Sun Nov 20, 2016 7:48 am

Good day All, I have just had my wooden prop overhauled by P Prop a at a fair cost. It looked fantastic and operated beautifully.
Yesterday while flying I had a strike of some sort and has destroyed the tip of one blade. Now cannot fly anymore. My flying colleges believe that it was a stone kicked up from the mail wheel on take off. I am not sure what caused it, I have inspected the aircraft and nothing is missing. Well I can debate all day. I am hoping that there is a spare prop lying around somewhere which I can purchase. A new prop at this stage is going to set me back a few months. I have had offers for pusher props already, however they all come of 503 motors with gearboxes, sadly they turn the wrong way as the Challie has a bet drive. I look forward to hearing from any one whom may have something to offer.
Thanks.

Hi RSS.

Call Piet and explain the extent of the damage . I'm sure he can repair the prop for you at a very reasonable price.
He has worked wonders on props we thought were unrepairable.

Hi Falcon and Jean,
Thank you for your responses, I will be doing that, have sent some pictures via another aviator whom will be popping in to see Piet.
I may also be limiting my search, by stipulating Challenger II. The prop is a 60 x 42 wood, but can be of another compound, will need to check the bolt PCD, it is 6 hole and I think it is standard to Rotax PCD. Looking from the rear of the prop i.e. in the propwash it is an anticlockwise rotation.
Thanks Guys.

Thanks Guys,

I have found a prop for my Challie. Lance Mcintosch in Cape Town had just what I was looking for. Thanks Lance.
Hopefully it arrives on Monday/Tuesday, and I will be up and flying next weekend. vhpy

I hope you all is well with the propeller.
If there is a need for a propeller of high efficiency and low noise - contact.
