Re: 9 - 11 August 2013 EAA Convention at Brits
A massive thanks to all of you !
Any event depends on the creator (in this case EAA), and the host (in this case Brits Flying Club). From the start we had excellent comms between EAA and BFC and I have to compliment both EAA and BFC teams for a great event. It has been a pleasure to coordinate over the past 5 months.
However, the success depends on those volunteer visitors who spend money to be at an event.
Rob Mc did not make it with the Mustang and shouldn't be blamed. Check, check and double check, and if not happy, go by road. Good decision !
TAF did make it with the Sling Tail dragger. Old microlighter, Jean D"Assenville did the first taildragger (ZU-TDR) Sling landing at Brits and Mike Blythe (another microlighter legend) still hung over from the trans-atlantic Oshkosh trip followed with the legendary ZU_TAF. Dankie manne, nog meer omdat Jean nou 'n half eeu oud is !
The trikers impressed with a very good showing. Don't blame me if I forget names, but have a heart, my mind was rather moeg toe remember all and sunder. Dish(y) and Jack(y) (nice **, by the way), T Croc, Folla and his lovely wife whose name slipped my mind, Laurens, Hendrik, Thatch, Gaylord, oh my, a huge hand full more trikes, thanks for your presence !!!
Bobthebuilder and JvanTonder, I am sure we must have met, but pitty I did not get to meet the face behind the forum name.
Nogmaals thanks to all.
Greetings from Brits.

Re: 9 - 11 August 2013 EAA Convention at Brits
Our AFIS (ATC) for the weekend, Uncle Bob Alison, is the best around. Pilots are in general wary of ATC's, but whoever has been "radio'ed in" by Uncle Bob will agree with me that he instils a calm and comfort, even with the most stressed out pilot. You are the best Oom !
He handled 94 arrivals on Friday and Saturday.
Add the Thursday and Sunday arrivals when Oom Bob was not there, and we had 110 to 115 arrivals for the weekend.

What a turn out, I got to admit, I chickened out with the weather.... Guess to my detriment!

Was uitstekend, baie dankie vir julle gasvryheid. En die tannies wat die pannekoek gebak het.

Thanks guys for a great day. Left Wonderboom under special VFR but soon weather was perfect. Yes Roel, I agree that oom Bob did a good job. When I was inbound there was 4 inbound planes and two choppers with 4 trikes trying to depart but everything went smooth.
Roel, did not get a chance to say hi seeing that there so many people......and last time I saw you was from Kokoriba when you left me that nice patch of prop-wash
Until next time
