Not meaning to piddle on this parade, but the weather is not looking great for Saturday!

Re: SWARTKOP AIRSHOW FLY_INN 11th & 12th May
Guys. I don't want to take chances. My plane needs some maintenance that can't wait any longer, and the weather's not looking good. I think I'm going to have to pass on this one, and work on my plane this Saturday.

I think i am going to Second that. My ATF expires Monday the 13th. So i think i will do a full service, plugs, oil, filters, electricks, and full wash then get the ATF sorted as well.D2O wrote:Guys. Nou net 'n oproep gekry vanaf Waterkloof om te bevestig hoe laat om my te verwag vanmiddag. Volgens haar weet sy niks van die feit dat ons nie meer mag land op Waterkloof nie.

Gents,
Despite the possibility of bad weather, I will attend the mass briefing tonight @ 18:00 for tomorrow's Airshow.
I will then report on this forum tonight what the latest update is.
Keep a look-out.
Happy landings!

Re: SWARTKOP AIRSHOW FLY_INN 11th & 12th May
According to YR forecast the winds are getting better (was 30km/h) and now 11 km/h predicted.
However my challenge, departing Brits, rather seems to be the forecasted rain

Someone from Swartkops phoned me earlier to give me an authorisation number to fly in tomorrow Thanks a mil for organising McFly!
At this stage though, it 'll take a miracle to actually get to fly in. There's a few maintenance issues I need to resolve, and I doubt I can do it before expected takeoff tomorrow morning . Also weather predictions not looking good :

Gents,
It seems that there has been some confusion in the arrangements with this event in the Powers to be. I have just spoken to Col Hanekom and the situation is as follows;
He was expecting us as a micro light /light aircraft gaggle similar to last year. This is obviously not quite the indication that Les had.
Our display time was from 08:35 - 08:45, however, they do not have parking space for a large number of aircraft . This means that it is expected of us to fly over Swartkops during this slot and leave agian (similar to 2012)
I then enquired about a early morning fly in and land option and then taking off just prior to our slot to do the display - also not possible because the airspace closes at 08:00. Also no parking space for us.
So it seems that the only option remaining is that if you plan to fly in at 07:00 and land, you have to be out before 08:00
My information as discussed with Col Clive SHepherd and Francois Hanekom.
In summary, all is not lost if you utilize the 1 hour slot between 07:00 to 08:00. We can still fly in, spend approx. minutes on the ground and then leave BEFORE 08:00. The Airshow itself may very well be the last of it's kind here...as rumor goes.
Les, thank you for your huge effort but I now understand the frustrations a bit better......

Re: SWARTKOP AIRSHOW FLY_INN 11th & 12th May
Additional info for those flying in to AFB Swartkops;
Runway directions 02/20
Tower freq - 123,2
Swartkops ground -121,75 ( remember to tune in to this freq for departure when we leave Swartkops)
Weather prediction as reported on the briefing is not good (light rain etc)
AFB Waterkloof freq -124,1 for the routing through Pinedene.
If weather permits, a couple of us will be flying out of Petit, routing past Microland. Take-off from Petit at 06:30. You are welcome to join us in this gaggle.
Obviously, you have to monitor the Waterkloof freq (one of us will handle the radio). Once we are inbound Swartkops you have to handle your calls individually with the Swartkops ATC.
Happy landings!
