pinedene route Baps to Haarties

Postby zoobie » Thu Jan 03, 2013 8:57 am

hi guys

has anyone recently done the Bapsfontein-Pinedene/Wk-haarties route?

A few years ago I know they used to route us low level (5500) to WK, then to stay north of the shell ultracity but south of coinworld until crossing the freeway

Does this still apply?

is Waterkloof tower quite open/accommodating to us microlighters?

I intend routing from Baps to Haarties then to Brits and don't really feel like routing all the way around Wonderboom.

thanks for your assiatance.

safe flying.

Zoobs ..... Take a look at this posting. The route changed slightly a while ago.

When do you plan to go?

Once in their space, report requesting Pinedene route. They will route you over the brickworks, request report overhead Pinedene station, route overhead the R something interchange, report the Rooihuis something watertowers in sight and you're in SRW.

From Pindene station, track a straight line to Aero 57 and you're fine.

On return if you state Babsfontein destination they will route you overhead Pinedene station and report Fly In estate in sight.

They're accomodating but sometimes I battle to understand the broad accent.

A lot of times you will find Waterkloof unmanned. If manned, they WILL send you back if your transmission is bad.

Hi Marius, if they're unmanned are you allowed to route through via known Pinedene route or is that automatic not allowed?
Thanks

Its allowed, the towers closed, treat as unmanned, keep a sharp lookout and go through.... Make all relevant calls on relevant channels...

This might help if you use Google Earth . . . . Pinedene Route + Reporting Points!
