GPS coordinates for VFR reporting points

Postby Loco » Thu Dec 27, 2012 10:49 am

Hi guys

Can you please help me out with the GPS coordinates for the VFR reporting points in:
http://www.cometaviationsupplies.co.za/ ... %20JHB.pdf
(The green triangles)

I'm specifically struggling to find the following:
- "Highway Junction"
- "Silver Ball"
- "Hartebeeshoek Tracking Station"
- "Rail/Road Bridge"

Many thanks
Ant

Oh and if someone has the exact coords of the "Microwave Tower" north of "Gerotek Test Track" that would be great

Are you referring to the SRW red and white radio mast reporting point at Harties?

Use Google Earth. It's quite accurate at determining coordinates for known visual references

Yes, it is known as the "red and white radio mast". I regularly listen to Special Rules West frequency at home, and know the radio calls for the reference points pretty well.
HBV, Ernie Els Golf Estate, and Attridgeville Quarry are also reference points regularly called.

Thanks yeah I've been using Google Earth like crazy but struggling with some:
- "Highway Junction"
- "Silver Ball"
- "Hartebeeshoek Tracking Station"
- "Rail/Road Bridge"

Btw what's "HBV" and is "Atteridgeville Quarry" = "Quarry Erasmia" on the SR map?

HBV is a nav beacon which VFR pilots also use as a VRP. Atteridgeville Quarry is the same as indicated on the SR map.

- "Highway Junction" - checking
- "Silver Ball" - checking
- "Hartebeeshoek Tracking Station" 25⁰ 53' 23.25"S 27⁰ 41' 07.38"E
- "Rail/Road Bridge" 25⁰ 54' 35.00"S 28⁰ 31' 30.00 E
