Trike to Sodwana possible?

Postby Loco » Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:20 pm

hi guys

just started my trike training @ rhino park but i'm also an avid scuba diver

so was wondering if it's possible (and relatively safe) to fly to soddies with a trike from GP?

have any of you guys actually done it?

& if so how long did it take and which route did you take?

if you perhaps have links to trip reports & photos that would be amazing

thanks & cheers

How many hours must you wait from the time you get out of the water until it is safe to fly?
Was it 24?

yeah i was taught 24 hours, apparently you can get bent just from driving back to GP after diving

i would imagine even going for a flip at the coast after a dive could be dangerous hey!?

so to go "trike diving" i would need at least 1 day to get there, 1 day to deco and another day to fly back!? still sounds like awesome fun (^^)

Hi Anthony!

A flight from Rhino to Soddies is do-able and will be great fun! I have been thinking about it for a while....

If you are at Rhino on a Saturday you must come and say hi, if I am not in the air I can normally be found around the large hangar (Behind the workshop) or later in the day having some "tea" at the restaurant!

Enjoy your training and fly safe,
Rudi

Hey Ant!

My trike has been to sodwana a few times before I bought it! I'll tell you what I'll do for you: I'll ask my trike in the morning which way it went and if it flew decently, then i'll let you know! (**) ## ## ##

Hi Anthony, I see this is an old post, have you flown to Sodwana with your trike yet? If you want some company, I'll join you anytime. If we do a shallow dive in the afternoon, and check our dive computers, we should be fine to fly back first thing in the morning!

I can arrange hangarage down there. I have a four cylinder Bantam that cruses at 55 knots.
