Numbi Flight planning discussion

Postby Tumbleweed » Sat Sep 24, 2011 8:51 am

A good topic.

Lets start a collective flight plan with alternativ scenarios.

A flight from Middelburg to Numbi, departing FAMB on Friday 30/9 to Hazyview.

A) Initial plan is to fly 1000 agl, but tailwind and local mountain cloud formation above Kwena dam suggest climbing to 10 000 ft asl to counteract rotors. What radio procedure?

B) Cloud looks solid over Kwena dam so you decide to veer north over Lydenburg at 10 000ft and then decide to land. Maybe try north to Blyde river to Numbi. What radio procedure do you use?

C) You decide to veer south from the escarpment to overhead Belfast, then overhead Ngodwana to Nelspruit then to Numbi. What radio procedure?

Alternative strips around each route if you're forced to land?

Hi Tumbleweed - I split your reply into a separate new topic, the other topic is to discuss the use of the Flight Plan sub-forum. I think the Numbi planning deserves a separate topic

Thanks for the feedback!

HI Tumbleweed, hereby weather profile graphs for Microland - Middelburg - Kwenadam - Numbi (30/9 06Z - 09Z - 12Z) looks like a great day for flying. The profile indicates cloud and cloud density, freezing level in blue and terrain. The red line is 6500ft to MB - 8500ft over the Escarpment - 6500ft to Numbi. You will start of with a NW/15kts and closer to Numbi N/5kts. I will update the info later in the week if you wish.

Updates below
