My Flight Plan - discussion - talk here

Postby John Boucher » Fri Sep 23, 2011 7:48 pm

DH.... I think this is a great idea I will definitely use it!

I do caution those that may think this to replace the S&R chaps - IT DOES NOT!

This is just to keep all in the loop.... awesome initiative (^^)

Yes John, I concur, this is to help the S&R folk, not to replace it.

I am commiting to some flight boundaries which I will 100% stick to. I will also brief every PAX and link them and their families to this.

We need to be responsible and be accountable for our actions.

I would also like to invite folk to use this as a log of their flights, feel free to post pics (there is no size limit), GPS tracks and use it as a log of your expedition!

Start your Subject with your Reg, your callsign or aerie name and the date.

Here to serve you

DH, a great idea chom!

Have been doing this along similar lines but between fellow pilots and it is comforting to know that IF something happens, there is somebody who knows where you were going! I was going to file a plan for this morning but like you, the weather is really messing with my Mo Jo! Sunday does not look good either

In my opinion it always helps if someone knows WHERE to go and look for you.

Trackers are expensive, so I use an app called Glympse (http://glympse.com). It is free and verniet, works on most smartphones and very easy to use. You e-mail or sms someone a "Glympse" and they are able to see where you are while the Glympse is active.

Be responsible and fly safe

I have an iPhone. Apple has a service "Find my iPhone" which locates the phone. The other half has the login.

Quick question DH...

Will you (or the relavent Mods) delete the "flight plan" when it is no longer active? IE have arrived safely or flight cancelled?
I must just echo your and JB's statements that this is just a forum for us to be able to submit details of our everyday "out and abouts" as an aid to any necessary SAR. We must still submit proper flight plans when required!!!! ##

I hope this gains momentum guys! Awesome idea. (^^)

Don't really need to delete it - we can use it as a sort of logs for flights - you can upload pics etc - we don't have any space problems.

RE: FLIGHT PLAN

John,
As a non-flying member at present I wish to mention the following;
1. This was one aspect which I assumed would be protocol as well as standing procedure for flying in any flight planned. Reason for this is :
a. In the military milieu all movement plannings has to be done to the finest detail in orderto maintain command and control. With vehicles and in your domain aircraft moving all over the sky it is
just logic to let someone know what the plan and intentions are.
b. Another suggestion to your flight plan is to set report lines within the flight plan which you reports to control when you pass it en route.(Serves as confirmation of your heading, speed and time.)
I hope I did not waste valuable time in suggesting above and hope this will serve to the benefit of all pilots out there.

Looks like there is not much interest here?

Come on guys! It takes 5 min to post a "flight plan" here.... It could save Hours and days for the people trying to look for you... ##

DH, can I suggest that we create another section like MY FLIGHT PLAN... specifically so that each member can post a pic of the plane using the reg no as a topic? Then at least SAR (and anyone else) will have a good visual description of the aircraft? Colour, Type etc.

Just an idea?

I must admit I am dissapointed in the poor support for this section of our forum :(

Most of the "Flight plans" are mine?

Guys even if you are just flying around the GF with no particular route in mind, you can set boundaries and then just fly wherever you like within those?

I fear we will only change our views when we hear of a pilot lying broken somewhere for hours....maybe even days... with SAR not even knowing which direction they flew off in?
I would rather go through the couple minutes of effort it takes to post here than be that same pilot lying in pieces somewhere perhaps with only an hour or two still left in him? The choice is yours though....
