Low hour Thunderbird MKII for sale

Postby IceAge » Fri Jan 09, 2015 11:28 am

Low 78 hour 2008 model Thunderbird MKII in excellent condition for sale!

Background and reason for selling: I bought the plane from a friend who immigrated to Australia as a step in upgrading from flexwing to fixed wing flying. Both my son and daughter are currently busy with their commercial pilots licenses and it thus made business sense to upgrade to a ‘blik’ which I could fly on NPL and they could build hours for their CPL hence I upgraded to a Savannah. The Thunderbird now is not being flown often enough hence my reason for selling.
The plane has always been hangered and is available for viewing at Kroon airfield

Asking Price: R 175k neg

Legalities
Current ATF valid to 13/08/2015 (all annual inspections have been performed by Trevor Davies the manufacturer)
Valid radio station license
Weight and balance certificate done 14/08/2014
All log books up to date and available for viewing

Engine and Airframe
582 Blue top (premix) with 3.47 C-Drive gearbox
Both engine and airframe have 78 hours

Propellor
Kiev 183 (43 hours)
I purchased the Thunderbird with a PProp that had the incorrect spec, ie. 70inch with 50pitch instead of 72inch with 50pitch. The result was that the engine was over revving, ie. Full throttle was 6700rpm (way in the red) and cruising at 6400rpm. I subsequently decided, instead of going with a correct spec PProp, to rather replace with a ground adjustable prop allowing for fine tuning. After some research I opted for the Kiev 183 with great results.
NB: If the buyer prefers a PProp I will gladly replace the current Kiev with a correct spec PProp

I am aware the market is a bit cash strapped at the moment   but this is too a nice plane to be standing in a hangar all day   ...................

I have subsequently decided that I will be accomodating in that I will sponsor the buyer the cost of the re-packing of the BRS as a 'discount', ie. I will have the chute re-packed at no cost to the new owner.

Fly safe

It depends how negotiable you are as R175000 is high for a tbird and although low hours the engine will have to be overhauled next year the 8 year requirment by rotex. Sill a lovely tbird.

Hi Donald,

Well it depends on the sort of offer. I have already 'discounted' the cost for re-packing of the BRS. However if you do not want the BRS there are options....
