Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
Andre
Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
Hi Andre en die res
Ek bou die airie by my Huis naby Rooiwal Kragstasie noord van Pretoria.
Ek wag al 7 maande, ek dink dis n skande!

Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
I think the major component difference between the KF and BB is the material used for the frame. Cant recall the names (think is Chromoly in the KF ), just know the one used in the BB is not as good at the coast owing to it corroding quicker.
Goose what is your estimate on the all in cost for KF7 excl time and tools?
I used to fly the younger KF (probably cousin of your blue/white one)

Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
Not entirely true. Chromoly steel is stronger than mild steel. This means to save weight you can reduce the thickness of the tubes. But is is also hellishly expensive hence why the kit costs R300K as opposed to the BB Explorer kit being R115K. Also repairs will require importing tubing, because it is not made in SA,and there are specialised welding processes requiredskybound® wrote:I think the major component difference between the KF and BB is the material used for the frame. Both frames need to be treated for corrosion, and in my case I powdercoated the whole thing at a cost of R1500. Then you have no corrosion problems at the coast. I know of 6 Bush Babies down here some as old as 10 years with no corrosion issues

Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
Thanks Morph. Ja, nothing escapes the coastal air. I assume powder coating only protects the outside skin of the metal - is there much risk of corrosion from the inside (unseen).
Goose, thanks for the costs. The reg of my KFII was AHF.

Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
When you get the BB kit you will see the frame is hermetically sealed and there are no holes to be drilled in any tubing except where there are flat metal tabs for the purpose. If there are tubes that are open ended then Boet recommends raw linsead oil in the tubes.

Re: My Kitfox7 SS Project
This is not true you can by Chromoly from Placo at Wonderboom airport and Placo at Rand airport. Chromoly is not something out of space they used it to make bicycles so there is no special processes.
