My first aircraft project

Postby Divan rossouw » Wed Jan 21, 2015 5:21 pm

Good day all microlighters. My name is Divan. I am 17 years of age and I am starting to build my own airplane. The Fisher horizon 1. At a time Trev owned it and then Induna, and then after that uncle Phillip Donnevan and now me. The airframe is complete but need to be covered, needs an engine ,instruments, windows and alot of other work but I'm so excited about it. I wil post some pics this weekend. Any advise from any experienced builders would be very helpfull because I'm a firts time builder. The engine I'm planning to install is a Rotax 582. Have a nice day..

Hi Divan,

Welcome to the world of home building.
Your best bet for advice, would be to join an EAA group in your area. Otherwise, there is always good advice from the good folks on this forum.

Something that I found invaluable, was the series of books by Tony Bingelis. Everything you need to know can be found there.

Good luck with the build.

Best regards,
Byron

Good day Byron. Thanks alot for the advice. I will make use of it for sure. As far as I know it is you who are building the soneria. The quality work you did on the pane so far look great.
Best regards
Divan

well done boy (^^)
Give it your best and please don't take short cuts. There are no short cuts in aviation. ##
And please stick to the plans

Thanks alot for the motivation avgas. I will stick to the plans and no short cuts would be taken. the first builder of this plane did a lot of modifications but I will do the rest of the plane acording to the plans.

There are plenty real experts out there. Join EAA and meet them! Get an AP that knows these types of materials and the power plant.
Beware of the self imposed experts. They waste your time and money and will give you bad advice

Where are you based?? Maybe we can propose a mentor.

yes i hear what you say. Dont take advise from any one. I am based in polokwane area. The person who I bought the plane from is uncle Philip Donnevan. I have been helping him a bit on the aircraft he builds for him self. He gives me alot of advise on the building as he realy is experienced in what he is doing but I think it would be good for me to join the EAA group. Thanks alot for the advise you guys give me. Its very nice to see how all the aviators are helping each other in this hobby. Here is my sel number if anyone maby want to talk to me about the building in this aircraft and whant give me some advise. 071 895 0749. Have a nice day (^^)
