Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Yip J,
It certainly does not look modern. I'll try my best to keep the top cowl flat. The Rotax uses a longer prop. so I'll mout engine as high as possible with maybe increased gear lenght. Will see when I get to it.
As you can see the ailerons are wider, but not full span. She also has split inboard flaps which is great. I'll fit VCs on top of wing for even better stall performance. I think she'll turn out light, stall right on design figures at around 40 - 45mph & not require too much runway. Top speed wise she should be the same as a normal aspirated VW KR2 as she'll be much lighter and fly at a lower aoa. At the light weight, she should also be a breeze to fly. Really looking forward to completing her.
Cheers,
Henni

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Hi all,
Here's my previous attempt at something similar.
I have a few questions please:
1. Where can I buy aircraft grade aluminium angled strips to use for engine mount?
2. Where can I buy flat, thick aircraft aluminium to bolt onto engine attach points?
3. Where can I buy rubber engine mounts for same?
4. I am thinking of installing fuel tanks in front of cowling behind engine for cg purposes. May this be done? In most older microlights, the fuel is stored directly next to & above a running engine. I'll use 25l plastic containers for this if allowed to do so.
Pic shows how I intend installing the engine, same as Lance did over here & shows what materials I am enquiring about above. Mine will just be much further away from the existing firewall.
That will be it for now. Tx for any replies & advice.

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
Hi everyone,
Tx for the info. I will get in touch with them. I'm fetching the KR on Friday, thereafter I'll start completing her in all earnest. I'm really, but really looking forward to be in a position to fly once again.
Some interesting links:
1. For anyone interested in off the shelve STOL performance for safer flying, here's an interesting article I've found on installing VCs onto your existing wing (quick & easy).
2. For the absolute extreme on STOL performance, look over here. Be sure to watch the awesome videos. Never seen anything like it...
3. For anyone wishing to build a foam & fibreglass KR2 from scratch without having to purchase plans for it first, look here.
4. For the absolute best place to find out more about the KR2, look here.
5. For more motivation on my idea of a Rotax 532 powered KR2, look here.
6. My other passion besides flying.
Keep well all,
Henni

Re: Rotax 532 powered KR2
What gear ratio in gearbox. By changing ratio you can fit shorter prop. Extending gear is also option. To fit motor higher will pose different issues.
Engine mount will have to be longer due to lighter engine.
Just keep it light!!!!!!
and good luck. there are plenty experts on KR's in EAA 322 talk to them.

Fetching the engine. Now I need to fabricate a similar mount.
