Hi Ian, your kit looks fabulous; I suppose is imported; could you please comment on what is the legal aspect of your build:
1. How will you register and obtain authorization to fly from CAA?
2. Who will provide the training as probably there is no rated instructor here in SA for the import plane? Will you go to the states?
I will follow your step in a couple of years, so I will follow your post, pls. include all!! :
Congratulations! :D

Yep, RV4ker pointed you to the local agents, who give great service.
IRO CAA legalities/requirements etc you should join a branch of the local EAA if you intend to build yourself, all the friendly experts are there - see www.eaa.org.za
IRO Instructors in SA, there are some, and the local agents (John Waterson) can point you in the right direction.
Cheers ian

Where are you building (Weltes???) I'd like to come and see it some time, when you are willing to show.
Regards
Rudi

Sorry Guys, work with a little thingy called number portability has been demanding my time, although I have managed to do some building, some pics below.RudiGreyling wrote:Hi Ian,

Built 1 door, this is how it looks like when in position..
To ensure the door is straight, you gotta strap it down while riveting.. Takes 262 rivets...
Then I (well assisted by my friend John) fitted the main landing gear and wheels. Took me an afternoon to fit the 3 tyres on the rims. (next time only an hour...)
While the front axle re-inforcers were being made, I potted around making the cubby hole and radio fittings, came out quite nice and will hold A4 size maps etc..
And here are the seats clecoed in...
Regarding coming around to have a look, your'e all welcome just about anytime, all you do is call me to see if I'm around when you have the time and I'll give directions. Yes Rudi, Im in Welties , 58Km from your operating theatre .... 0832277414
Cheers ian

Eish ... , on Sunday I finally realised a dream which I am sure all
builders do, the day that you can sit in the construction and
make aerie noises !
The first person to sit in the aerie was the 'boss', the long
suffering feeder and supporter of the builder !
It now stands on it's wheels and all is (almost) ready for painting.. Still not certain of the colour though
Cheers ian
