Hi All, seems somebody has got all there wires crossed here (**) . I am not using a BMW engine, or running this motors performance down, not sure where this has come from.
In fact somebody on the zenith forum requested info on the bmw motor and I referred him to contact oupa which he has, oupa's info has now spread the lenght and width of the USA, sure he will be hearing more from the guys in USA wanting more BMW info, BMW is also good option, my preference is to use the suzuki motor should I not be able to get a good deal on a 912, I have plenty time for planning engines so will wait and see what comes up in the mean time.
So back to building the 701, all flapron skeletons now completed and all slats ribs formed last nite, slat spars next, the build continues
Please repsect the weather at this time of year, safe cowards pilots club log many pleasant hours.
Safe flying where ever you are take to the skies.

Hi Z-MRP,
I'm the bloke who asked for more info about the BMW motor (Marty - from Tasmania, Australia).
Like you, I'm scratch building a 701. I bought the plans in 2007 - before the CH-750 came out in 2008 - but I'm sticking with the 701. I have changed the elevator skins to the 750 design, ie a trailing skin folded at the trailing edge and a separate leading edge skin that overlaps on the spar, with an inset electric trim tab.
I've only completed the tail and stab/elevators at this stage, working on the wing skeletons (solid riveting the spars wasn't fun!), so it'll be a couple of years before I need to think about engines.
Still, I'm very interested in the R1200 conversion, Air Hog gave me some good info and I'm following his Thunderbird build with interest.
There's some good info on the Zenith.Aero site - whenever I need more detail on a part I do a search on the photos and someone's bound to have a picture of it.

Good luck on your build!
Cheers, Marty

Hi wulf21 glad you came right with BMW info, I like the idea you have done on the elevator trailing edge, had I known about it I would have done the same. I had already riveted my elevator and then found out the bent trailing edge was if you have a 2 stroke motor, so I have straighten the trailing edge out, doesnt come back exactly smooth but sure it will be fine.
What I am going to do is the mod for increased headroom in cockpit, plenty info in zenith site, also I am not buying that molded windshield, expensive heavy and seen plenty tears on zenith forum off them cracking when fitting, I managed to get from zenith the diagram for the old style windshield made from a flat sheet of lexan.
Good luck with you build and I will keep a lookout for you on zenith forum, keep posting you never know what replies and help you get.I got good help from Tim in Canada via the forum and of cause Bob is always there as well.

Progress has been slow as I have been making a whole bunch of brackets for flaps and slat supports and mounting brackets.Thats all done now so the flaps can now be completed.
Slats is a bit more work, slat jig box is completed as well as all parts fabricated to start assembling the slats.
Now that I have received more ali sheeting started fabricating wing parts, all rib blanks cut out and ready for forming.
Will need to also start making up fuel tanks x 4 , 2 inboard and 2 outboard, as these have to be installed before the wings can be closed up.
Will try post a few photos as well

Hi
On postreply, below the edit box there are Options and Upload attachment tabs. Click latter, browse to locate file(s) and add.

Not a stupid question....lots of people seem to battle with uploading photographs.

Hit reply and you will see a section below the area where you type your response which says Options and Upload Attachments. Select the upload attachment tab. Then select choose file and browse to the location of the file and then select add file. There is a text field below where you can type a comment on the photo but it is not mandatory.

The only real problem you can have is when you try to upload a photo which is too large. I find that generally all of my photos need to be reduced in size.

To reduce the photo's size there a million different applications but I use the standard Microsoft Office Picture Manager which should be on all PCs. Open the photo that you want to use in thi application and Select the edit photo option. A new menu will pop up on the right and one of the options will be to compress the photo. Select compress option and it will give you numerous compression options but I select the web pages one and press ok. After that just save as the photo wherever you will be able to find it. Note when you close the application it will ask if you want to save changes....I select no otherwise it will change the compression/quality of the original photograph.

Hope this helps.

After seeing Johan's reply I might be accused of being long winded!

Thanks for the photo attachment instructions Scotsman, I need the long winded version,oh and thanks for telling me how to down size as well, I will get some photos posted shortly.
So just another build update, went up to kariba for a week for new years bender. BUT the build continued at kariba, formed the 12 wing nose ribs whilst relaxing in our cottage and in between dodging an elephant that stuck its trunk thru the back door to have a drink from the kitchen sink, a really amazing site, manged to take snap shot just as he took his truck out the sink!
Just finished final shaping of rear wing rib and wing root form blocks, blanks are now cut, so will start forming these parts in next day or too, then to cut and press all the lightenng holes in the wing rib parts.

I shall get together a few more pics of the finished parts, so the build continues slowly. Build stopped for 3 weeks due to going on holiday but had a chance to buy a pnematic rivet gun and a quaility spray gun whilst on holiday in the UK, nice toys for the build later on.
Wing construction is next on the program but have to make up fuel tanks x 4 before getting into the wing build.
