BMW Thunderbird now in final stretch. Took it to Trevor Davies today for fitment of the wings and final inspection with CAA.

NOT LONG NOW.

Trevor is pushing to get it finished and the CAA inspection done before the 15th but I doubt it. The factory close on the 15th. Well early in next year then.

The plane should have been finished about 3 weeks ago. Several delays because of changes I have made to the rebuild. The engine part of the build was finish a long time ago but then I decided to replace the Pod. Then decided to replace most of the instruments with the baby EFIS of MGL. Because of less instruments I was sitting with a lot of holes in the instrument panel. So, new panel had to be made up. Now, this week when we wanted to put the wings on to get it ready for flight, we saw that the wings had some serious hanger rash it picked up while being moved back and forth. So, new wing covers coming up (going for the BMW colors) but with its another delay of 2-3 weeks.

But, on the positive side, it is now a new plane again that can last me many hours.

Can't wait anymore.

Take your time! No rush! If we rush we make mistakes. As pilots we need to be safe, not fast.

All of us are very keen to see the results.

I know we are taking it slow but as this is a development project and we want everything to be perfect, it takes time. I am glad to say that we are now in the final stretch and even if I say so myself, it is MOOI.
I have done new sails for the wings and had to wait almost 6 weeks for the colors I wanted. They should finish them today or tomorrow. The it just have to be fitted and then we are FINISH.

We have changed the exhaust again, here are some pictures:

Johan,

Looks very nice. (^^) (^^)

Based on the pics it looks like you now have two exhausts? If so how much more weight will you be carrying?

Sterkte with the last stretch............ The end is near and then you will really be able to enjoy her fully.

Hi Boet. Trevor het vanoggend die nuwe seile gaan haal (die goed sou 2 weke neem, en toe neem dit 7) so nou. Moet Oom Trevor net vinger trek en die vlerke aankry. Alles is verder klaar.
Nog net die CAA inspeksie maar dit behoort nie 'n probleem te wees nie want hulle het die hele bou gevolg.
