Hi Justin,
Cowl looks great, would love to use your mould when I find the time to work on my Raven. Would possibly need some mods as I have a Rotax 912 installed, Also the problem of getting it here, I live in P.E. Contact me on 082 4526576.

No idea if it would fit over a 912 - perhaps you should chat to Johan Froneman at Saldanah - I am sure he will be able to help out with a 912 mold - and it will probably be easier to get it to PE.

Re: Justin's Raven
Suffering from a serious lack of motivation right now. Finished the big job, and now it is back to the million tiny niggly jobs, where you never seem to make any headway.
I think it is time to go on a serious holiday !

Your plane is really looking great, hang in there, you will soon be flying!
I am keen on seeing how your plane will perform with that engine, I am waiting before I make a final decision on an engine for my plane.
Keep well,
Regards,
Rudi
PS. Have you decided where you are going to base your baby?

I have given up on making predictions, but this long weekend should see the plane finished...Rudix wrote:Hi Justin!justin.schoeman wrote:Suffering from a serious lack of motivation right now. Re: Justin's Raven
Had a big day yesterday.
1. Clean FWF with high pressure meths spray and toothbrush (get rid of release agent and dust after making the cowl plug).
2. Flush fuel system (to make sure no dust got in anywhere.
3. Clean air filter.
4. Replace all control cables and other removed FWF fittings.
5. Refit, torque and track prop.
6. Charge battery.
7. Hall it out into daylight for some fun!
8. Did some low power engine runs to setup and verify all the engine instruments.
9. Got the thachometer working by swapping regulator terminals and removing all jumpers.
10. Verified all CHT senders against a separate calibrated thermocouple.
11. Hooked my little eeePC up to the ignition systems (had some interesting fun here, sitting on the wing with the eee on my lap, so that I could operate/monitor engine controls, while also working on the eeePC).
12. Verified the thacometer against the ignition timing with the eeePC.
13. Check the ignition timing with the eeePC (everything SPOT on!).
14. Tuned the carb (1/4 turn CW from stock, and it is damn near perfect).
15. Tried some higher power engine runs, but discovered that by 2500RPM, it is impossible to hold on to an eeePC in the prop wash...
16. Climbed inside for some full power runs.
17. Accelerates smoothly all the way up to 2900 RPM, and stays there with (almost) everything in the green.
All in all, a fairly successful day. Got the following (engine) todo list now:
1. Fix oil leak on oil pump to case seal.
2. Could not get oil temp up to recommended limits - may need to partially block off the cooler.
3. Left hand CHTs are 20F lower than right. EGTs were pretty close, so I think this is just the effect of the downward blade acting on the open baffle boxes.
4. Throttle action is still a little heavy. Need a better firewall through fitting for the cable.
5. Chat to PProp about getting static RPM up to 3100-3200.
Getting close now!

Gah... Been a slow couple of weeks again. Mostly doing 'cosmetic' stuff. Gascolator heat shield is done, firewall fairings are done. Most of the interior upholstery is fitted. But no real progress on the main todo list...t-bird wrote:How is the TODO list going ?
