This has been the most frustrating and tedious job. I thought it would take a weekend, or two, but a month and a half later, and I am finally starting to see the light of day. Thought I would be flying already...

Applied the first coat of spray filler today. First time with a smooth consistent surface. I see there are some minor issues still, but tomorrow should see it sorted.

Then it is just: prime, wax, wax, wax, wax, wax, PVA, gel coat, glass, wax, wax, wax, wax, wax, PVA, glass... (gasp - just when I thought I was almost done...)

Looking good Justin. Aircraft has an angry little face

Hopefully in a few years we will be able to fly in formation together. Wife is looking after the kids this afternoon so a chance to work on the Zodiac.

Is an angry cowl technically called a "scowl" Jean?

I will be taking a mold from this plug, so the mold will be available if anyone wants to make another 'scowl'... In fact, I would like it if it is reused - after the amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into it, it would be a shame to make just one!

"scowl" could also be the brand name/short hand for Schoeman's Cowl....

Finally got a coat of MS Primer that showed no pinholes, flats, bumps, or rough surfaces! Starting to look like something worth taking a mold of, at last. Now I just need to wait for it to cure properly so that I can sand down some runs (don't ask - need more practice (**) ), hopefully without damaging the surface in any way.

Will be airborne soon now. Promise!

The 'scowl' was completely unintentional. I simply started with a block, cut open the air inlets, and then cut everything back as sharply as possible, to clear as much material as possible, as far back as possible, form the prop disk (to improve prop efficiency on the short VW prop).

Got in a session of sanding today. My spray painting left a lot to be desired, but a little elbow grease is bringing up what should be an awesome surface. Not a bump or ripple - feels like glass! Just hope I don't stuff it up from here.

Gonna be heart breaking to smash up ~200 hours of work to remove the plug after taking the mold...

Entering the Karete Kid phase (wax on, wax off)... Arms feel like they are about to fall off, but the finish is amazing. I can't even leave a rag on top of the plug - it just slides right off!
