Help needed to promote aviation during the World Cup.

Postby alanmack » Fri May 14, 2010 9:07 pm

One of the aims of MISASA is to promote microlight and light sport aviation in South Africa and MISASA will run a stand at one of the biggest attractions of the 2010 World Cup. We need pilots to offer time to man the stand, schools to promote aviation and planes to sell for you. We will not charge for participation.

The Ubuntu Kraal in Soweto is playing host to the 2010 Public Viewing Area under the name of the Soweto All Africa Village. The venue is a key component of the marketing drive to showcase South Africa and will have a captive audience and media exposure that is guaranteed. Soweto is indeed a melting pot of cultures and the Soweto All Africa Village will be the biggest venue to play host to all African countries and their people. It remains the biggest tourist attraction destination in Gauteng as it offers a glimpse into the real South Africa.

The media and promotional tools that will be utilized to promote the various events at the venue include:
Metro FM – who are an official partner of the Soweto All Africa Village
Interviews on selected TV programmes such as Morning Live
Print media interventions on newspapers including the City Press and Sowetan
Online presence within various online sites, including Johannesburg Tourism Company.

MISASA has secured a 3mx3m stand at the venue from 5 June to 11 July.

Our purpose for holding the exhibition is to promote microlight and light sport aviation.

Many soccer fans will attend the events at the venue as will many foreign tourists that will include many foreign pilots. Remember we have a bid in to host the 2013 MPL & SPL World Champs in Springs. The estimated foot traffic through the venue is huge.

Our plan:
To have instructors and experienced pilots man the stand to promote our sport.
We will invite the local schools to try and get people to start flying and we will get the schools to do introductory flights (at the cost of the person going) but we will ask the schools to offer us introductory flights to be given away as prizes at some of the events and media briefings.
We will run a flat screen with a rolling presentation of the Sling flying around the world.
We will get some posters and banners printed to promote Microlight and Light Sport Aviation.
We will put up a notice board - advertising schools where people can learn to fly and we will print business cards with our website address on it where we showcase how and where one learns to fly.

We need a commitment of at least one consecutive two day on duty period. This way on each day of duty you will get a new partner and so the “equipment” will be handed from one person to the next. If we get more help we can reduce the commitment period per person. On your first day ( shift) you will be in the back seat and on the second day you will be pilot in command. The following have offered to help man the stand for a minimum of one two day period: Alex Rudd, Robert Gassman, Mervyn Reynolds, Brett Hickman, Jay Hyde, Rob McFie, Marc Gregson, Roy Gregson, Andy Kasperson, Mike Blyth and Alan Mackenzie. The stand must be manned from 5 June to 11 July.

Pilots, we need your help. Please volunteer to man the stand by emailing Alan and Rob who are co-ordinating the stand at nemo@webo.co.za If you can only do certain days please say so. You can also send me a private message.
