Postby gyronaught » Wed Nov 19, 2008 6:28 pm

EZULWINI LODGE FLY IN: 14th, 15th and 16th May 2009.
Pilots are invited to a fly in to the heart of the Zululand bushveld. The event will showcase the splendor of the East coast up to the Mozambique border. The itinerary is as follows:

Thursday 14th May: Fly in at your leisure to the spectacular Ezulwini Lodge situated in Hluhluwe. See http://www.ezulwini.co.za/index.html ( S27’ 59. 053 ; E032’ 20. 335’) . The runway is just short of 500 meters and is adjacent to the lodge. Larger aircraft that require more runway will be accommodated at the nearby Hluhluwe Airfield. ( S28’ 00. 500 ; E032’ 16. 300’) . Security will be provided at the Hluhluwe airfield, the cost thereof being shared by the pilots concerned. The radio frequency for both airfields is 124.8. Transport will depart from the Hluhluwe airstrip for the lodge at 17h00 sharp. Savour the spectacular flora, fauna and wildlife that the lodge has to offer. Acclimatize to the Zululand bushveld with a few cold beers around the fire.

Friday 15th May: After a luxurious bush breakfast, fly to Sodwana Bay, Lake Sibaya, route northward to Mabibi coral bay, the infamous Kosi Bay Lake system, skim Ponta do Ouro Bay along the Mozambique border and return via the spectacular Ubombo mountain range.

SAT 16TH. Route to the coast over the spectacular St Lucia wetlands, Charters Creek and Fanie’s Island. Fly south along the Maphutoland Marine Sanctuary. Pass Cape Vidal Bay, Mapelana and visit the Jolly Rabino shipwreck, this being the most expensive maritime disaster in the world. Continue southwards to the Richards Bay harbour. Return to view the confluence of the white and Black Umfolozi Rivers abeam the world acclaimed Umfolozi Game Reserve. The reserve boasts the highest density of rhino in the world. Avgas can be purchased from en route Richards Bay airport. Mogas will be available at the lodge and at Hluhluwe.

On Saturday, those that do not wish to fly can be hosted on a leisurely guided game drive of the Umfolozi and Hluhluwe game reserve.

Sunday17th: Depart for home at your leisure.

Concessionary rates have been offered as follows; Bed R195 p.p.
Breakfast: R65 p.p. Dinner R125 p.p. The dinners are a spectacular two course meal.
A daily pilots briefing will be held after dinner at 17h30.

The enthusiasm is contagious guys. I can assure you that the response from the gyro community will be awsome. We have been talking about an event at this location for some time now. A number of pm's have been sent to the gyro fraternity and the response has been excellent. It will be awsome to fly the coast to the Kosi Bay with a mass of gyros.

Hi there

There is a group of us, 4 possibly 5 gyros, from the Wetsern Cape coming to this fly-in. This will be the longest trip I have done and looking forward to it immensely! We have sorted out accomodation for most part except for the south coast. We were hoping to stay over at Margate but I spoke to Peet and he says his hangar is full! Is there anyone else who can help us with acomodation and fuel at Margate or surronds? We are planning to leave the 11th and should be at Margate 14th.

This was a realy nice weekend, with an "interesting" flight back to Kitty Hawk.

Thank you to Mike and all the others that arranged this, accommodation was good, food was good and the company even better.

Watching the rugby in Sharks country and winning was the best.

We will surely try to go back next time.

Our flight back to Kitty Hawk was longer that 6 hours due to the wind. (Piet Retief to Ermelo took 2 hours)
