Looks like I won't be driving one of those in a hurry. Why so expensive? (Euro, Rattex 914, blades?)

Second that - me thinks it is a rip-off, they aren't even closed I would then much rather play with a helicycle, it is turbine, and a couple of hundred grand cheaper Seriously compare a normal 3 axis to the Gyro, i think the Gyro guys are paying for someones private island in the MaldivesRV4ker wrote:

To fly is Heavenly but to Hover is Divine!

Based on the prices they are well into the 3 axis arena. I was always under the impression that Gyro's were akin to trikes and not serious xcountry machines, but you can almost get 2 GT450 for these prices and you could def get a very capable 3 axis. (Jab J430 is only R550K fly away VAT incl.) As mentioned above a Rotorway heli (which can hover) is around R700K new and can be had for significantly less from the USA.
I am still interested in why they are so expensive? The Zenon is even more IIRC?

I am no Gyro fan (only for the reason that I can't afford one), but here I must stand up for them. Judging by programs on the TV and some articles posted here, they seem to be serious xcountry machines.RV4ker wrote:I was always under the impression that Gyro's were akin to trikes and not serious xcountry machines
Watched them do circuits at Rhino on Saturday after I stopped flying in very windy conditions: they make xwind landings & take-offs in very strong winds as if there were no wind at all. No, these can really go places, no doubt about that.

There's also that cheap helicopter from New Zealand I think price was around 180? Mr Rv4ker I remember you still raised the lic issue I think at those prices it would be cheaper and then you could boast about having a heli lic and do legit hovers TO and land and STILL be an MPL guy
You could also save your money and buy one of these

Can you imagine the license dep? CAA or Enats? night rating?

Point I am trying to make is that you need separate license in any case and thus it no longer an alternative to MPL, but possibly it is going up against PPL 3 axis types and although I have not driven one I don't think a Gyro can compare to an RV as X-country machine or eg. (Prices are similar) Gyro speed say around 100mph. RV (or similar 3 axis like Samba, Jabi, etc) in some cases more than double that?
If you want to get from A to B quickly I have never considered a Gyro as a viable option (same way a helicopter is not). Am I missing the boat?

re
Why a Gyro ?
Have a look at my trips on this forum.
Last weekend with the wind – Low level over the Limpopo
Previous weekend – Waterberg mountains
A few weeks before that – 1130 km 3 Gyro’s two days.
And Baberton
Walkersons
Loskopdam and, and and
It seems that we are the only airplanes flying from our strip.
Yes it is expenses but instead of sitting on the ground and debating if we should fly, we fly.
And it is comfortable, even with the 15-20 knot wind the previous weekend. Taking off at 14h00 at Grand Central and landing next to the Limpopo on a game farm at 16h00.
Flying a gyro is not how fast you can get there but it is about the journey.

IMHO R500K+ for "all about the journey" seems a bit expensive to me. Not by any means being derogatory to Gyro's simply stating my opinion. Based purely on the numbers why is the RAF so much cheaper...

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. 80 feet above ground near a mountain at 50 mph @ 11h30 . If it was possible to do this safely with any 3-axis I would have. ATP pilots crash light aircraft while flying @ 400 feet and watching game.

Re: re
You should rephrase that : It is not the weight of the Subaru the problem, but the weight of the airframe. Designers (as opposed to clients) love the Rotax because of its weight to power ratio. They simply pass the cost of being innefficient designers to Mr Customer who has no option but to pay and have the HEADACHES of a very sensitive engine. I still have to hear of a Subaru (genuine) engine failure. Now the 914 ! Plenty !!!t-bird wrote:Diesel Fan

Sycamore have failed in making (at that time) their airframe lighter. They cannot blame the Subaru for that.
Flying is like dancing, it is a love affair between the pilot and his aircraft
