Yolande wrote:Please do join our Facebook page, so that you can be kept up to date, this is our daily communication tool to our members and friends of SAGPA. Email and SMS will only be use for paid up members, and only if pressing info needs to be addressed affecting our Gyro Industry.

We are looking at upgrading the website and George Coetzee is currently busy with this.

You have raised your concern that " there is 0 information available on what SAGPA has done the last year in order for me to decide whether to join SAGPA or not. Even the events calendar has nothing in it.". You have seen the video and what we are planning, is there anything else you would like to add that we need to look at? We are open for suggestions, but need the gyroplane industry to get involved and helping us to achieve the goals and solutions, in order for us to Grow, promote and protect.

Looking forward in welcoming you to the gyroplane industry in the very near future!
Thank you for answering my post individually. !!!!

Thats the thing. I am not part of the "gyro industry". I do not wish to be. I am an aspiring pilot of a gyro. I want to use it to to see great places and meet interesting people. The first frame of the video claims SAGPA represents "pilots and enthusiasts" and then continue to show a long video with frankly nothing of interest for pilots and enthusiasts, unless you also happen to own a flight school, AP, or agency - in which case you are indeed part of the 'industry'.

I understand the idea of trying to grow the "industry" in order to try hopefully grow and improve the whole sport, but surely SAGPA should then be split in two:
1. An association that represents a growing and vibrant industry.
2. An association that represents the recreational gyro pilot.

Rarely has one entity that tried to represent both suceeded without harming one of the two? ($$)

I sincerely wish you well on your work ahead. It looks very ambitious and the video was very polished, entertaining and impressive! =D*

For now I'll watch from the sideline and wish that one day I'm proven wrong and become a happy SAGPA member (^^)

Well done and congrats for the new Committee members. Looking forward to some new energy coming from SAGPA. Would be nice to see more posts and info on "Gyro Talk" as it has been dying a slow death.

Thanks Nomie and Glen.
Yes it will take a bit of time to make changes but we as a committe are keen to do so. Glen is correct that our sport and especially the social part of it has been neglected and we need to find out how to fix it. I believe that a well organised ,well attended North -South get together will be a good place to start. We are looking at the long weekend in June next year close to Gariep. We want to fly, get together, socialise ,pick up old friendships, advertise our sport to the rest of the world and grow. That will obviously be good for the industry as a whole . Getting a few, regular regional fly inn events on the calender, organised by regional reps, will also go a long way. Linking these events to training courses , or other events is also a good idea. What other ideas or areas do you think we need to address? Anybody?

as a possible local get together I would be prepared to demonstrate some basic first line maintenance things to some guys if we planned a local get together in the Cape? if any are interested?
How many guys just fly and have little understanding of the machine they fly, imagine your on a flight and you land at say a farm strip and get a puncture? do you guys know how to remove the wheel and strip it? do you know how to make a makeshift jack using a stone and piece of wood to lift your copter without damage? what basic tools you need on a cross country flight that will enable most field repairs without carting the entire workshop??

You had a MTO before and now your in a magni and after installing the wheel you find the breaks are binding and you cant get going, do you know how to adjust those peculiar brakes? all disk brakes are the same....? are they?

In class we are taught T&G but seldom is it demonstrated? now your flying most weekends with misus and find your having a bad day? I believe some tech advise on the electrics and the pre rotation devise will aid and we could make a breakfast fly in a bit educational.
I was at FAGR and on the taxi way lost the prerotation cable? :( I wanted to get home, and did, IMO some basic idea sharing will make us all safer and grow into the hobby. I did not panic because I had a basic knowlege on how to get the rotor to turn and then had a successful T/off
You have replaced the clogged fuel filter and now the trusted steed will not start? can you identify if its an air lock? can you fix it? ...just some simple things that have happened to me on my small journey with gyro copters.
So we dont need to wait for an annual event to share a coffee and pass along information we can and should do it monthly.

Im not an AP by trade but will willingly explain in great detail the workings of our machines in a simply way that could one day assist you if your stuck.
At Aerosport we are fortunate because my CFI is also the local AP and during lectures I often take a student into the workshop and show them in detail how the parts all go together, with the intention that they can do first line basic maintenancw without feeling intimidated.

Just a thought

Mr Greg, that sounds like a good idea. Just the get together and open discussion can already be worth it.
Thanks for the initiative. My suggestion is that you just invite an AP ( maybe Johan Froneman or Louis ?) to also take part just to "make sure" what is done, discussed or suggested still falls within the Maintenance rules and the Manufacturer's guidelines. We can even invite CAA if we really want too.
Will appreciate if someone can make a video so that we Vaalies can also learn new uses for a wine bottle.

Hi Greg
I think it is a brillliant idea .I,ll send you a pm. I think this should be done in each region on a , maybe, monthly basis. We need to get gyro plilots together and what better way is it not, than to do this with a few quick tips and discussion by felow pilots who has been there ?

Regards George
