Hi

The latest brief briefs from the SA CAA show one recorded gyro incident/accident in March 2014,

27.3.14 - Napoleon Farm, Limpopo, South Africa - ZU-RIF - RAF SA 2000 GTX SE FI - c/n 032 - during take off the pilot reported a sudden loss of engine power just as the RAF 2000 gyrocopter rotated to lift off. ( assume Subaru )

Source SA CAA

I've been told that there was a Cavalon incident/accident "in Africa" recently - I've no other details at all and appreciate it's a big place !

Any insight welcomed.

Mak - Many Thanks for the link. Rolled over and caught fire - sounds like the end of RKC.

I hope the pilot get airborne again soon.

The Gyro occurrences in regard to ATF's only issued by RAASA in SA for 12 months ending April 2014 are:
(remember it excludes Gyro ATF's issued by CAA)

Occurrences: 8
Fatal accidents: 2
Fatalities: 2

Hours flown: +- 11500

You can find a total summary of hours flown vs occurrences etc on the RAASA website: http://www.raasa.co.za/pdf/RAASA%20Repo ... ridged.pdf, page 11.
