Flew to work today!
Flew my copilot who I was rostered to fly with today into Cape Town International in the gyro. Parked the gyro in the SAA hangar, and then strolled across to sign on for duty for our flight to Joburg and back in our Airbus 320. Then flew back to Stellenbosch afterwards. Fun day.

Now this is something not many gyro pilots will ever have done!
If I may ask on your return flight did they make you taxi all the way to the holding point or could you do a direct take of from Hotel routing FASH? Assuming the crosswind was not beyond the limits.

Re: Flew to work today!
Greg, I've chatted to Rob Russel in the Tower before about it. He says that ACSA, and not ATNS don't like it if the ATC's use the taxiways for take-off/landing. Having said that, he says ACSA have no jurisdiction over the General Aviation section. The previous time I landed there, he cleared me to approach and land on Hotel taxiway, but inside the G/A Section (flying over the red and white sliding gate that was closed! On departure, I took off inside the G/A Section, flying into a nice 18 kt SE, so got airborne in a ticky.
Inbound, they were very busy and we got cleared to land on Rwy 16, but touching down East of Rwy 19 due to landing jet traffic.
For our departure, we were given Rwy 19, intersection Echo.

Re: Flew to work today!
Glen this has to be the coolest thing, would it be possible for a few of us to hook up with you at FASH and do a gaggle fly in?
I have student who is really wanting to fly the M24 and would be most greatfull if you would let him ride in the M24.
It would be super cool to arrive and park at the GA hangers and have a breakfast at FACT, even better if we can combine it with a few moments up in the tower. ( I find many of the Npl guys are very intimidated by the tower) so it would be a great exp, if you could considering investing a morning.
Just a thought
I'm certain I can collect a few guys who will want that T shirt
When I first saw your OP pics I thought you had slipped away with a bit of nookie but then I realized it was the gyrocopter smile

Re: Flew to work today!
Hi Greg and others,
I need to give this a think, as ACSA airports generally are user unfriendly in terms of general aviation just in terms of getting around. Ideally it would be great to land, park, go have some brekkie, and then visit the tower. ATC love visitors, is just the getting around is a problem.
If we park in the general aviation section, a huge fence separates this section and ATNS, so one has to walk a good 15 minutes, unless we can hitch a ride. The airport building for breakfast is on the other side, so that would need another long walk to get there. If we could get a Uber taxi or something just to cart us around, then it could work. FACT ATC are generally quite busy, but possibly a Sat morning might work. How many gyronauts would be keen on this?

Re: Flew to work today!
Can I get a show of hands who would like to do this?
I have approached Glen and have have now bounced it off certain authorities , it may be possible so we need to do some planning?
The idea would be we all meet at FASH and go as a gaggle from there.
I have had some pm and a few SMS messages from interested parties, I would like to make sure if we get this off the ground ( scuse the pun) we don't forget anyone.
Two strokes no problem you will still be going faster than a xenon
Greg

Gyro Fly-in to Cape Town International
I've created a new thread with my proposed plans to fly to CPT International for a visit to the tower, and a breakfast: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=26085
