Something small for the Microlight industry

Postby ZULU1 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 3:35 pm

As part of our continuing developments as part of our export program. We have launched a new miKro series, these are totally new in headsets design, intercom control and maybe directly interchanged with most systems using suitable adaptors. These include Lynx, Micro avionics, Buzzcomms, Speakease, and all twin GA jacks. They are designed also for usage in Gyros which we will be supplying a leading UK school using the MT03.

Available in two series the "sport" type which is self powered and comprises 4 x AAA Li Ion batteries or rechargeable types that work from a powered interface. All types feature muTunes our music muting system, the mikro interface also holds the pax muted for 2 secs after PTT press

From our experience with wind, these headsets are lets say streamlined and reduce wind swirl around the ear cups, this is a source of irritation on Gyros, GT450s and so on, we think we have drastically reduced this factor. The headcup is shaped like a piece of cheese, this allows all the electronics to live in the back of the cup. The headband is nappa leather.

The chatterbox series remains the same as always.

Trikenut we succumbed to pressure..

We are making a version for SA with RJ 45s that are cheaper and easier to replace "in the bush" called the miKro chat. Yes they will all connect to the MT03 plug, Twin Jack, Single Jack, direct to radios and also the Oryx Lemo plugs for the Mountain rescue squads. And if anybody has something we havent thought about; the way the headset is configured should be straightforward.

They took a lot of work to get right..

Yes Ross, Wargames is correct, the new intercom unit has a slightly bigger footprint, although the smaller unit worked very well, we simply couldn't find enough room to locate the ipod shuffle. The new unit in the top picture doesn't come off the panel with velcro as easy either and a shuffle will "just about" velcro on the side of the housing. The shuffle still is bigger than the housing though. Most have been exported but we are selling locally now, Piet Meyer and Wargames...

The headsets in "sport" configuration (4 x AAA Li ion batteries) are now 250 grams lighter than the UK made Lynx units and weigh in at 480 grams. Thats still 100 grams more than the benchmark Lightspeed Zulus, but we cant afford Titanium !!! BUT working on it...

We also make them with 5 x 2/3 AAA cells for connection to a powered interface, that cell is a very common unit in the UK for cordless phone replacement batteries and rated at 400 mah. That makes them "user changeable" after a few years usage. Still not as light as Liions though. Its not a very common cell in South Africa. The Sport series will operate with a powered interface as it has a blocking diode to prevent the Li Ions charging.

Li ion batteries incidentally weigh considerably less than Alkaline batteries, a good replacement set for our chatterbox headsets are available from Tobie in the Cape (Electrocomp) or use the Energizer "Blue" units available all over the country. They have 6 times the life of a Alkaline cell. I personally prefer primary cells anytime to a rechargeable unit. The weight advantage is the main benefit.

Ross, Why dont you spend two weeks of a holiday with us ??? Work in the factory, assemble PC boards and test toys. Now that will give you something to talk about.....!

Enjoy the day

Paul,

I have been using the chatterbox, vee-rabbit, helmets with integrated headsets, the whole nine yards for quite some time now and it is brilliant. Never had any problems with it, comms always excellent.

Then yesterday, Piet showed me the new gear. Excellent (^^) (^^) , all I can say is that I am very jealous  .

Thanks for great products Paul.

PS. thanks for the keyring (^^) (^^)

Hi Paul,
The working in the factory sounds cool!
Can you post a pic in which the top of the intercom is clearly visible?
Also, how do you twiddle the system on and off?? i.e. on the chatterbox pro there is a switch on the top.
Cheers
Ross
