Air Magic LED lights

Postby ZULU1 » Mon Jul 18, 2011 8:35 pm

We have finished the initial batch of our LED front lights and are pleased with the results, now making a initial batch of 100 units (half already sold). They are direct replacements for the Aquilla and Bantam wing lights but draw 140 milliamps (originals 6 amps) this will allow multiple units on the front. Output is 400,000 mcd 20 x 20,000 mcd LEDs and designed for up to 15 volts. Very light as all ally and the lens is toughened glass. The wing tip position and strobe lights are almost complete now with tooling being finalized as the mounting is different.

I have made them primarily for a replacement for the Aquilla/Bantam spot lights, after flight testing them they seem brighter and whiter than the original car spot lights which are H4 60 watts units. This allows our Ballito trikes to fly with transponders, strobes etc. on without running down the battery. Eventually when the transponder mandate is country and world wide these will be required in any event. Due to initial low volumes they are R345,00 each ex works but with quantities this will come down.

We are making a bracket for Mountain bike usage as they have a very much concentrated beam. If used with a 800mah SLA battery which we have sourced and had a pouch made they are a very effective night light with a very nice beam pattern. I have never considered them on a Motorcycle but I will now mount two on mine to review this. Obviously we can get a much higher LED up to 57,000 mcd each in this package which gives over 1,0 million mcd in total which will be hectic ! But as many know the MOQ nails us with these toys. Next is a very cool rear bicycle flashing LED thats also very bright...

Chaps, The next batch of 100 headlights are now in production, first batch sold out in 3 weeks. I intended putting 2 on my bike but had to sell them due to demand. After investigation using a under keel self contained strobe, the intended wing position lights were completely blanked out by the strobe. So we have decided to up the output of the wing position lights, and then add a white position light on the King Post. With the new generation Leds its a flying Diwali. The whole lot on, Left light (Red), Right light (Green), King Post light (white), Headlight (White) and keel strobe draws less than 1,7 amps. We believe this is the first position light for a wing tip on a flex wing, that is excluding the GT450 winglets of course. The first units will be shipped on Tuesday. It may be wired to the original circuitry on a Aquilla for the front light as that alone used 6 amps !

Keel strobe is now R950,00 with the clamp and bracket, switch and fuse holder with connector.

Front light is R345,00 with connector to suit Aquilla and Bantam

Wing light set with junction box and a idiot led showing they are on splitting power and mounted on the Pylon. Comprising King Post white light and the 30-32 mm Sikla clamp, Left and Right tip lights with Bungees and cables as a set are R1450,00 ex works.

This set up gives zero interference to a Vee Rabbit antenna.

We have sold them for use on Mountain bike night rides and have outperformed the current products available, so two on a Bike would be awesome for day running lights.

I am now working on putting them on a wing tip for a Bantam.

Hi ZULU1
Please post pic of the combination of lights.
I intend fitting them on a Bushbaby so fancy clamps for trikes not needed.
I need:
white for rear
Green & red for wing tips
2 landing lights(in wingtip)
and 2 wingtip strobes.
Thanks in advance

No problem, they are standard on Bantams. Now made almost 250 units and still going strong. I advise any Bantam/Aquila owner that has the original lights to change as these are designed as a direct replacement. The power saving from original at 12 amps to these at 200 milliamps certainly is kind to that alternator/stator on the Jabiru motor which is close to the limit when those are on. Available from Andrew or us direct. New batch is "pumped up kicks" at 1,1 million mcd output "awesome". Remember that these devices do NOT have a driver in them as the non aviation commercial units have and are designed not to give rf interference. As an example try a Petzel next to your hand held radio !
