Woodcomp propellor

Postby AWACS » Thu Jan 08, 2015 9:50 pm

Anyone with information on the Woodcomp prop issues
We have recently bought a Woodcomp Sr 3000 variable pitch propellor with apparently brand new blades (3). It has only now come to our attention that there has been incidents and accidents caused by these propellers. I have picked on one of the SB's issued by the factory w.r.t potential wood delaminations.

Our concern is obviously flight safety and what to do next - the propellor is ready to be installed on our Sling within the next few months.
It seems that the wooden blades on some of these props may be susceptible to ingress of moisture and subsequent cracks/delaminations with rather spectacular failure modes.

Although our prop set nrs are not listed on the Woodcomp SB I picked up, we are not sure if there may be other issues on these props as well.

Is the replacement of the wooden blades by composite blades a solution to the issues?
Your advice appreciated.
