EGT Rotax 582

Postby cjkrit » Tue Feb 26, 2013 10:26 am

The temps [EGT] on my Rotax 582 Bluetop all of a sudden differ a lot - as much as 490 reading on the one and 1050 reading on the other one.

Possible causes?

Where must i start with fault finding?

Your EGT is controlled by your fuel/air mix. Richer mix lower temps, leaner mix higher temps. If you take your plug out on that piston and it is burning white/grey then it is definitely a leaner mix. It should be dark chocolate brown.

The hot temp is excessive and will result in a hole burnt in your piston. Don't fly with it like that.

I would suggest there is a blockage in one of the jets of your carb on that piston. A good clean should solve that problem.

Morph,
I must add that these are Fahrenheit temps. So the one cylinder is actually running very cold.[normal 1050-1100 degrees F]
Could it be a faulty temp probe/censor?

Thanks for the reply.

ok,

then it is either very rich on the cool piston or a faulty sensor, check the plug, if brown, ok, if black and oily not.

It is probably the sensor, I have had low cool readings from broken wires and sensors

Swap your leads around and if the reading moves with the change, you then know it is the probe that is faulty.
That would be your quickest route to try find the problem.

You can also get them from MGL in Somerset West 021 855 1383

Be careful when you take the old one out, they can be really tight and with enough force they can snap off
