Bush King

Postby Goose » Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:04 pm

Hi all

I have seen this plane at swartkops today, it is fitted with a turbo VW engine, tubular frame, compecit wing rips, metal spars and covered with fabric.
It looks like the thing for the bush strips in africa (^^)

Who can tell us more about it :?: :?: :?: :?:

Saw it doing some high speed taxing at Secunda a while ago.

I am alway wary of sites like this... The first thing you see on their page is:
2.1L EFI 105HP Engine Using the BUSH KING PERFORMANCE EFI SYSTEM.

29 Tri /Cubby aircraft are flying with these EFI Systems:

Fuel burn is approximately: 3.75gph (14 liters per hour) at max power.
With petrol engine technology, the best you will get out of 14l/h is around 50hp (and even that is a stretch). So how do you get an engine producing '105HP', but only using enough fuel to make 50HP.

Hopefully it is just a typo, and not another snake oil salesman...

Good point.....

Lets hope it is a mistake.

I see the pricing is all $'s (Pretoria based company) and relative expensive.

Interesting plane. Those tailfeathers look a tad small for serious cross winds.

Yes, I would stay FAR away from a spin in that! I also wonder about the wing strut attachment points on the fuselage, it is quite far back and can cause tortional stresses in the wing, should have been easy to attach the struts at the undercarriage mounting points? Would be far stronger.....

Anyway, what do I know? vhpy Just my 2 zim c's worth.....

I was told at our AHASA meeting on Wednesday that Kobus v Staden "X" cubby builder from Secunda
are building these aircraft at AFB Swartkops in the DFC hangar. Hope it's the same aircraft i was told about.

Kobus told me he sold up in Secunda and will continue from Swartkops. Has concluded an established US agent to produce to his specs and to market that region.

This thing is big inside and built for vleisvreters. Good luck to him.

Looks kinda like a mad moment between a BB, a Cubby and a Savannah. CH 701. A real orgy if you`ve ever seen `un!! Should fly OK, but I agree about the size of them gatveertjies. In my humble opinion, looks a tad on the smallish side........ Looks like fun though!!
