Oil again

Postby Robin Hood » Mon Sep 15, 2008 11:48 am

I know this has been covered before...just cannot find the thread. What is the oil that BP provides that can be used in the place of Castrol TTS?

OK, I found out from BP that the oil they sell is Vistra 2T 250. Meets API 2c+. Has anybody else used this with good experiences?

Hi Robin Hood.

I don't know the BP product, but the replacement for Castrol TTS is Castrol Activ 2T.

Have been using the BP synthetic for 400 hours over 4 years. Took the tryke to Solar Wings for a checkup. There was no
carbon to speak of, honing marks still visible inside the silinders and the only repairs were to the carbs on my 582 bluetop.I am very happy with the performance and will not change.A lot cheaper than SST. coen.

Hi Robin Hood,

There are a couple of us at Petit who use the BP Vsitra synthetic. I have a 618 Rotax and due to the carbon build up in the rave valve system I do not use mineral. I opened the rave valves for inspection last weekend and there was no sight of carbon build up. It is a great product and a lot cheaper than most of the synthetic products on the market.

Here in Zim we have been using Castrol Chain Saw Oil and this burns off clean, no carbon deposit, rated for 2 stroke motors up to 18 000 rpm, we have had no engine failures with this product.

Thank for all the replies and info. I am going to go with the BP Vistra product seeing I am an ex BP man from many years ago and all current users seem happy with the product.
