Hey Pinkfluff
Welcome to the forum.
I would recommend the MPL first for a few reasons:
1. If you find flying is not for you, you have spent less $$$
2. You will learn to respect the weather more in a micro
3. Your MPL will count towards a higher license anyway, should you decide to continue.
Enjoy

Good points you all are making, but lets first go into finances.

A mpl will cost you about +-R22 000. (Please correct me)
This will consist of 25 hours flying. Lets forget about the exams for a while.

If you really love flying and decide that you want to do that for a living, then you need to start your PPL.
Because you have 25 hours on logbook with mpl, that equals 12.5 hours towards PPL hours, of which only 10 is transferable towards your ppl.

That means that you will still have to do 40 hours for you ppl, with cost at about +-R40 000.

Total cost of +-R62 000    with in effect 52.5 hours on the clock towards your comm.

If you do PPL from the start it will cost you +-R50 000 and you will have 50 hours towards your comm.

That is the sums and is not taking into account the fact that you might go over the minimum required hours of 25 and 50.

My advise will be to start mpl for pleasure of flying, but you must pay the money, so just do your research before making decision.

What are you planning of flying when doing mpl?? A trike or 3-axis??

Regards,

PS. Al prices are according cape town fuel prices.

Explain? I'm completely lost. And what would preferably be better?
Money is clearly not the problem. My parents sort that out. And I also work. So you guys are telling me if I have about +- R25,000 then I can get my Mpl - how long will that take if I give the money upfront.
I got alot of time too.
Assuming you not taking the P!SS, NEVER PAY IN ADVANCE. Get a credit card to use only for flying and pay as you go. If you deposit the full R25K in the Credit card it easiest and you get some interest on it..... If you shell out all the cash and school does a runner then you like many before you will only dream of flying. (**) (**) ($$) ($$) (^^)

PS
There are plenty schools close to PTA, but depends on what you wanna fly and when you can fly. Some fly mornings, some afternoons some all day.

They close their doors or loose your file showing the deposit or charge for sundries, missed lessons and "bookings" missed. More prevalent in the PPL scene than MPL I think. There are many many stories of school running away with students money, especially when they have unscrupulous operators.... FTC was case in point and another at Rand had ban rep for similar ops...

No problem,

We also have another student at Aero57, which had to endure the same kind of treatment from another instructor. He is doing well now and learning to fly :)

That exactly what I am talking about and why I would recommend using credit card.

PS
Go somewhere else. Chicks make awesome pilots and listen on radio any day of the week. Plenty of them poling some expensive toys round the sky. My PPL instructor was a woman and was great. Taught me far more than the RAF wannabee that had holier than thou attitude... Don't give up, just find somewhere you happy... DONT PAY IN ADVANCE.... puff puff puff puff

Hi PinkFluff,

Never give up. Give Flo a call. Tracer gave you the number. I am in Cape Town, and I have heard only good things.

Just for info. A instructor should prep you on the ground on what he expects of you. When in the air, you are his responsibility. IE, you will not get him killed, he will get you killed, because he need to tell you what to do, or what you shouldn't do. There will always be a bond between a instructor and student, even when you get your lisence and is set free to fly away. Go and find someone you can relate to, and who you feel you can trust.

One last thing, Create your topic under training and keep us up to date. We love to see how you are progressing.

Hi & welcome,

It sounds like you are in a rush to get this MPL....and you say you have time on your hands now.

Make sure when you choose a flight school to see what their "Flying roster" looks like first, its pointless if you can only get 1 - 3 slots a week. Bearing in mind that the wx could steal a slot or 2, it will take you months to get your MPL.
It might pay you in the long run to travel a bit further to a field where the instructor can accomodate you more frequently. Find an instructor that has not got a "boss" daytime job comitments that start at 8 am - 5 pm every day and you can get more hours in.
The more hours you can put in closer together the better you become at a much quicker rate thus even saving you a few hours in the long run. ( Flying once a week and then sometimes every 2nd week is no good when training......you go back to your last lesson for half an hour to try and progress for the next half an hour) It will cost you unnescessary time and cash.

Good luck and keep at it, live your dream !!

So I just call an instructor and tell him I want training in a (wet) dream ....

He would completely understand what i'm talking about???
'' '' No comment......

This is REALLY the name?
No, RV4ker can correct me, but me thinks that is a MX-2. Acrobatic aircraft and it almost looks like the same one Mark Hensman competed in this year south african aerobatic champs.

Very nice aerie, and it is like RV4ker described.
