bushbaby explorer cheetah xls and Cubby
Hello All,
In the subject you see 3 beautiful SA products if I stand correct all 3 are in the same price range and if you read the websites they are all good for flying around in SA. I would like to hear from you what would be the reasons to choose for one or the other? Its difficult and its hard to get independent information so please help me out to make an informed decision.
Thanks

Hi, yes, the Bushbaby Explorer, and a bigger version, the Bushbaby safari is available. I never battle to get two-up @ 100+ kg ea airborne? The Explorer is available in 2 versions.
1 Dedicated nosewheel only, and Rotax 582. (Microlight)
2 Nosewheel or tailwheel, range of engines between 80 - 110 hp. Requires PPL
Safari available tailwheel or nosewheel, range of engines around 100hp. This aircraft is very roomy. Requires PPL.
For more info, PM or phone me 082 8041896

Re: oribi vg bushbaby explorer cheetah xls
Hello Boet,
Thanks for the speedy reply. BTW I never said I never used the word "battle" I said working hard
Why you need a PPL instead of a SPL?
Why should someone opt for a Microlight version instead of the PPL one?
Regards

Only way is to.....FLY ALL THE A/C and make your own choice.....!
You will find the "Right" aircraft for yourself.
Every A/C is awesome....just depends what you want from it.
582 Version is brilliant at the Reef with "One-Up" and at Lower altitudes it is a great performer 2 up....the 912s transforms the A/C completely
My Reasons for choosing the Cheetah 912s combination. (Not in order of preference)
Best value (Do a spreadsheet.......!)
Proven design
Good looking (with Spats)
Cruises at 95mph @ 5000rpm using 13l/hr.
Fantastic characteristics at stall speed of 35mph
With full power and 1 notch of flap will climb out at 500ft/min from 35mph
Amazing in heavy crosswinds and exceptional in rough weather.
Very Large and comfy cockpit.
Can easily remove doors.
Continuos development. Compare No: 1 to the latest No: 105
Spares available off the shelf and available in 1 Day.
Very tough design - 4000 landings and only slight wear on the undercarriage.....cheap to replace
Trilam covering easy to repair and good for 3000hrs (covering tested at Rainbow after this time and found to be faded but unaffected in strength). Torn wing needed removal and replacement of leading edge.....R3600 (Not Bad)....3 Days to repair (Even Better)
Very, very low operating costs
Only Negative (being addressed)
Brakes are kak
Again each person wants something differetn from an A/C
The Cheetah does it for me.

Re: oribi vg bushbaby explorer cheetah xls
Hi there, welcome. As the law stands currently, you either need a MPL or a PPL to fly. The RPL or sport pilot's lisence will only come into effect the 1st of Nov this year. Most of us are still waiting for clarity on the new lisence. Some guys will want to fly on a MPL purely from a cost perspective others may have a medical issue etc.
To come back to the Aircraft. The explorer And Bushbaby currently has an all up weight of 550kg, we are working on increasing it to 600kg hopefully before year end. There is a misprint on our website in this regard, it states 500kg.
Good points.
-Short field performer
-Increased cabin space
-Good load capacity
-Good crosswind capibility (larger tail feathers)
-Wings foldable
-Economical
-You can let the factory customize a lot on them
-Value for money
-Kit or factory build
-Nose or tail wheel
-Fly with doors open
-Proudly South African
-Versatile,safe and proven arround the block and further, fun for not too much, not going in a big hurry fishing, type of aircraft
Negative
-Not too fast 100-115mph
-You will love it too much to get rid of it
-luggage compartment not the biggest
-Not for to tall pilots, 1,9 ish will be a sqeeze
but then again, I am a bit one sided here. Talk to Explorer owners.

Hello Gunter,
I take it that you can order it in two versions 450 kg (m/light)500 kg (light aircraft) why somebody would choose the 450 one?

Re: bushbaby explorer cheetah xls and Chubby
Hallo Novia, Why 450? It is a lot less costly to obtain your MPL licence. IF you want to sell again, you have a double-sized market. Both PPL and MPL can fly the 450 version, whereas you will need PPL to fly the `500 version.
