1) Just to clarify, the plane was originally fitted with a Rotax 532. I see in the logbook it was removed and a 582 was fitted.
2) The empty weight is officially recorded as 259kg
3) Cruise speed on the Highveld is 65 - 70 mph because it has a "climb prop" fitted with a fine pitch.

I am interested in something like this. Some things I have to sort out.
Have PPL. Do I just need conversion and how does it affect my hours for my PPL renewal every year if I fly with a aircraft like this?
Any ideas?

You will need a simple conversion. If you convert with a Microlight Instructor then you will only be able to fly it on a Z code in this case Z050 (i.e. as a microlight on mpl). Then at the end of the year your Z code hours are MPL hours and the rest PPL. If you do your conversion with a PPL instructor then you will be able to build your PPL hours on it under the relevant PPL code. I am not sure if you will have to register the aircraft at CAA for PPL to get this code. it's worth giving them a call. I spoke to them regarding my BushBaby and they said it didn't have to be registered as PPL or MPL, just NTCA. Then depending on your licence you fly it with a Z code or the relevant PPL code.

Hi Duck

I am a PPL pilot, and excuse my ignorance on MPL. If it can be flown on PPL : Is this a Non Type certified aircraft? May it be flown over built-up areas?
Stall speed?
Max all-up weight?
Any known issues?

No need to apologise Kobus.
See the post before yours regarding the PPL issue. Yes it's NTCA. According to the Authority to Fly, no flights over built up areas for extended periods.
Stall speed is 38 mph.
VNE 105 mph
MAUW is 376kg according to the Manufacturer's specs although it regularly does 450 kg on the Highveld vhpy
No known issues........(not full of cr@p) very docile and forgiving.

Hi Duck !
Couple of questions.
Any instructors in Gteng re. conversion to Koala?
Where could i learn more about geotech wooden construction?
How is tbo calculated if no accurate record of Hrs on the 582 now fitted?
What is the advantage of the fine pitch climb prop as opposed to a slightly courser pitch?
Hope you can help, all the best, Rob.

Hi Duck

If possible, please answer the questions from Robserve also on this forum. I am sure many others (including myself) are interested in the answers.

Kind regards
