URGENT APPEAL

URGENT APPEAL to Members, Pilots & Aviators, General & Recreational Aviation fraternity

I have on several occasions asked that members be mindful of the lockdown provisions and with this in mind, the allowances that have been made to aviation. The allowances ranged from initially the maintenance/health flights to only recently the proficiency flights. We have been made aware of folks disregarding the regulations and pilots flying without any form of permission and for reasons by own choice. That what has been put in place for recreational aviation came at a great sacrifice of time and negotiations with the DoT. It is a grave concern to us and to SACAA that, although they agreed to make the process as accessible and easy as possible, there are individuals that completely ignore the regulations and fly without any form of permission. Currently, there is no single RA flight allowed in South Africa without some form of permission or submission. We sincerely need everyone to comply as enforcement is currently done by the South African Police and that they have and will arrest individuals that disregard the provisions of lockdown. These breaches of lockdown are also reported to the Minister of Police and frankly stated, judging from past actions, he will simply lobby to withdraw all privileges from Recreational Aviation – no different to what has happened to alcohol sales. For those folks that fly thinking that they will still be covered by their insurance policies, need to avail themselves of the facts. Claim repudiation is real! I appeal to not only members but that entire GA/RA fraternity that are flaunting the regulations and non-compliance to the allowed privileges to realise that by your rogue actions, that you are merely jeopardising it for the entire fraternity.

Please folks, your co-operation is of paramount importance - John Boucher (Chairman MISASA)
