Flamingo Chicks in trouble in Kimberly

Postby mulderpm » Mon Feb 04, 2019 3:16 pm

As you may be aware and as was broadcast on 50/50 & Carte Blanche on Sunday there is a catastrophe taking place at the Kimberly sewage works where thousands of Lesser Flamingo chicks/babies have been abandoned by their parents because the pan has dried up and they have to go and search for water. This problem is caused by the drought and, more so, by the break down of the Klein Plaatjie sewage works resulting in a lack of treated sewage water from entering the pan. Many flying clubs and individual pilots (Queenstown, Panorama, the EAA 322, Donovan Kemp, Brian Stableford, Onderstepoort Hospital, Dr. Doriannne Elliot, Kerrie Wolter, Dr. Mike Brown & Prof. Frans Grotepas and many more) have lived up to the plea. Please donate or offer your services to help in the plight of these thousands of Flamingos.

This is one of the largest if not arguably the largest Flamingo breading colony in Southern Africa (Sau Pan ???).
