If like me, you haven't updated your Garmin software or Jeppesen charts in a while, I thought I would share these links and guidance to make your life a little easier.
I took me a little while to find all the links again, so hopefully, this helps:
Garmin Software Update >> Go to Garmin website >> www.garmin.com >> search for your specific Garmin >> click on 'Software' >> download software update to a file >> if your Garmin device has an SD card use the SD card version of the software update, or, once the file is downloaded, plug your Garmin device into a PC via a USB cable for the update, as it is a '.exe' file.
Jeppesen Charts Update >> Go to flyGarmin website >> www.fly.garmin.com >> Use the same Garmin login and register your Gamin device, if it is not already registered >> Select 'Navigation Data' >> Check for the status of the Jeppesen chart for your device (see RED ARROW in screenshot below) >> If out of date, purchase your new Jeppeson chart and follow the upload instructions.
I am a little embarrassed to admit that my Jeppesen chart was last updated in 2011!

Thanks for this useful info. Can someone help me with the following please? I am importing a helicopter with a Garmin 430, but the garmin only has the American database. It apparently needs the card changed but i have no definite answers! Any suggestions?

The best would be to go to the Garmin website and log a support query.Horned Adder wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 1:18 pmThanks for this useful info. Can someone help me with the following please? I would think that you simply have to download the local Jeppersen charts for Africa, but as I say, best to check with Garmin.
FYI: United Kingdon Garmins are completely different as they work off a different grid system, but I would have thought the USA was normal GPS co-ords. With that said, even on the most simple of GPS devices, changing the GPS system to the UK grid system is simply a menu option.

I don't know why Micolighters hijacks the links to have a 'www.microlighters.co.za' before the actual link, but I have changed how they are displaying, so just copy them out into a new tab.
This is what I get when I click the link, which makes absolutely no sense: www. microlighters.co.za/www .garmin.com (spaces added to show it in text form)

Re: Garmin Updates - Software and Jeppesen Charts
Hi all
Dont know if this is possible so I have to ask.
Can I use a regular GPS eg. a garmin nuvi in my microlight? Is there any other software that I can download to replace the road maps that is used?
OR
What would be the easiest way to get a basic flight path/direction if I dont have a compass?
