Renewal of my MPL

Postby DarkHelmet » Mon Aug 22, 2016 10:47 pm

Hi guys

I don't know if any of you are aware but I was involved in a vehicle accident last year. My C2 neck vertabrae was broken and I had my C1, C2 and C3 neck vertebrae fused.

What is my chance of getting my medical renewed?

I loved flying my trike but I am so skittish in real life now I do not think I have the reflex to ever fly a weight shift again.

What is required to pass the flight medical?

I stand to be corrected, but if you have recovered completely, I do not think this incident
will effect your renewal. I do however read between the lines that you are fearful- and rightfully
so after trauma. I would strongly suggest that you push forward and renew your licence.
However.... consider changing to 3 axis microlight. Just 2 c. Hennie

Hi DH
Please get back in the saddle. Confidence will come back. I had a similar situation last year, broke my leg and had a light stroke because of wrong medicine. Lost my medical because of this. Year later, went for medical again and pass. Was also skittish in the beginning but now back to normal!!

Go for it.

I had a retina detachment operation on 12 June and i still have no decent sight in my right eye. There is no guarantee that I actually will get full sight back in my right eye. I have not been flying since the end of May and may never fly again. I remain positive that I will be able to see well enough in a few months to fly again.

You should be able to pass a class 4 medical as long as you have recovered fully from your accident. If it will make you feel safer to fly 3 axis aeries, then do it. You have to decide. It is your life.

Good luck.

N trike (weight shift) pilot makliker as n Three axis.! (!!)
Fusion van jou nekwerwels het niks met jou vermoee om n trike te pilot te doen nie.!
'Go for It' en laat ons weet.
Ek praat jou thaal...

I broke my neck way back in 1993 with a "hangman's fracture", basically sheared my odontoid process clean off and spent a year in hospital during which time I had my C1/C2 fused with bone from my hip and wired up. Never had a problem getting a flight medical...

Okay, so I am going to book my flight medical for next week Tuesday. Then take it from there...

Who is training in the North of Johannesburg these days? Is Flo still operating?
