Pylon Racing

Postby bobthebuilder » Tue May 10, 2016 8:44 pm

Hi guys,

I'm bored!

There have been a few fun nav competitions and fly aways planned over the past few years. Some well supported, some not. There are probably various reasons for this.

Here's mine:

I love flying, scooting around the patch and finding breakfast at nearby fields each week, but the element of challenge is elusive, apart from wrestling crosswinds in my little tail dragger. Nav exercises and competitions don't really excite me. Maybe my ADHD doesn't allow me to concentrate long enough. The pace needs to be a way faster.

Aerobatics in the right ship would give me a reason to get out of bed early again, but my bank balance .... err! NOT!

PYLON RACING! ... that would make my balls drop.

Is anyone keen on some Reno style pylon racing?
You know, the type way more exciting than the Parys time trials, the type where we pitch a few trikes and fixed wings against eachother in a full on low level race.

Rules and regulations aside for a minute, Yes / No / Maybe?

Don't try Pylon racing - Eskom get very pissed off when you dig up a pylon and fit a bloody great big engine to it!

There was an initiative to encourage trikes and others to do the Pylon racing at Parys but I think only Grant and Barry pitched, so the record belongs to the GT's.

Scully was very keen to encourage more and participates with thorough briefings and even offers a skilled pilot to fly with a few times, only to see about 2 LSA fixed wings. Seems everyone wants to venture out at sunrise and be back at the nest before 10h00.

Looks like fun John.

Doesn't look like there's too much interest though.
