I agree, the fees and costs are becoming prohibitive.

Slightly off topic, forgive me: phislett1, with an attitude like that at +15 you will go a long way in Aviation one day.

Even though it now costs me 10 times more than it did per hour than when I started, I cannot think of a more satisfying and rewarding way to spend it.
There are still opportunities for youngsters in Aviation, and there will be for you when you finish school.
Use the next three years to learn as much as you can.

If you do not already have a copy of Sir Jim Davis' PPL handbook, I will send you a complimentary one.

Good luck and keep dreaming.

Phislett1 i purchased my first trike 27 years ago at a cost of R16000.00 At the time i was a student nurse earning R155 a month.Used to camp in a tent at Skyriders just so i could fly early morning and then drive thru to work in my clapped out volksie (6v battery) to get to work in time at the old General Hospital Hillbrow. All these years later i still have no bucks, still drive a clappped out car ,still camping(live in my hangar with my aerie), but i fly. Bottom line is the passion. That addiction is what will get you there no matter what. Hope you come do your license with me one day and learn to fly stick and rudder style, the good old fashioned way... xxx

Gyronaut, that would be REALLY appreciated! Right now my knowledge comes from things discussed on this website, a little from Google, and a lot from flight simulator vhpy
But a ppl handbook would definitely give me much more knowledge and I'm sure it would clear up things for me that I'm not so sure of and maybe even correct things I've been doing in flight sim that are completely wrong.

Suesing, I stay in Durban so I will probably do my training at either Lightflight or Ballito as I will join the family business for a few years to pay for my training (unless of course I manage a job in aviation from the time I leave school)

In August, for school, we have to do a week of work experience, and I'm planning on doing mine at Microcrafts (formerly solo wings) so hopefully they will be impressed with me. Nonetheless I am really looking forward to working there around all the trikes! vhpy

Talking about which Turbo, haven't seen any posts on your rebuild thread for some time, how are things going with the Navion?

Phislett1, your Jim Davis PPL handbook is on its way!

Listen to Suesing… She has the passion and you will do well to learn from her.

Look forward to watching your progress.

Best wishes young man.

navion build is as complete as I personally can complete. The work required now needs to be done by someone who is qualified to work on certified planes. being a ZS she will have this work carried out and completed once Scott returns from Iran... It's interior and instruments and then testing. The engine bay is complete, fuel system done, hydraulics done, heat shielding in the engine bay also done. It was ALOT OF WORK to complete but it is done.

Body work is also done, and cowls, fairings and exhausts have been completed too. She is looking VERY nice although covered in a thin layer of dust, but once the remaining work is done, she gets polished again, and then pics will come.

Waiting patiently... vhpy vhpy

Is there a little bit of light in the tunnel? I paid approximately R200 LESS for a fuel pump at the Rotax agent than what the exact same thing cost at the Opel agents!!
