Non Aviation - Best Restaurant Durban

Postby pietmeyer » Mon May 16, 2011 1:36 pm

Hi Guys

Anybody know of a nice restaurant for a special evening in Durban? My wife and I will be in Durban area the end of the month and it is her birthday so I need to score some browny points which equals to more flying for me later. Any suggestions? (^^)

Brett

I will be picking up my wife at the airport on Friday afternoon and we are staying in Ilovo for the night, diving Saturday morning then back home to Gauteng.
Any place from Umhlanga to Ilovo is fine and all suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Piet

Piet, the revolving restaurant "Romano" is really very very good (we had my daughters 16th show there and not overly expensive) and a very good second is in uMdloti "La Belle Punto" overlooking the ocean and not high tech dress code but really top drawer. Friday lunches are excellent overlooking the ocean. A good curry is "Dannys House of curries in Tongaat" now the Chelmsford Hotel. I am starting a web site "Wit Ous guide to the best bunny and all". A good second is in Pinetown "Essence of Africa" just behind Westmead...Also in Ballito, Beira Mar is very very good...

Added lift after take off and all...

Bel Punto is top notch and very mellow (http://www.belpunto.co.za/) up in Umdloti. Then there is Zest up in Kloof (http://www.zest-restaurant.com/) which is a bit more intimate. Or the "brother" to Zest a place called Aubergine in Hillcrest (http://www.theaubergine.co.za/).

Roma Revolving is my favourite. Have been going there for 35 years and it still has the same owners. Gino and his brother. BTW it has never been called Romano. it is at the top of John Ross House and hives 360 degree views of Durban and the harbour.

Enjoy
