Best weekend of flying in a Gyro

Postby t-bird » Mon Feb 20, 2006 12:58 pm

My dad and I decided to fly the Crocodile river and then the Limpopo river to Stock Poort .

Here is the story.

We took of from Solitude at 06h15 Saturday morning routing towards the dome and then round the Lanseria tma towards Harties.

Across the dam wall routing towards Thabazimbi .Refueling at Thabazimbi from where the trip actually starts.

From Thabazimbi we routed around the mountain to the south. We saw heards of Gemsbuck , Blue wildebeest, Kudu , Impala, Hartebeest and many small game.

After a half an hour we saw the Crocodile River in front of us. We route along the river seeing game and birds every second . In the distance we could see the Marico River to the west.

These two rivers join together to start the Limpopo River. We continued with the Limpopo river seeing huge herds of Eland , Tsestebies , Giraffes and other game. We arrive at our destination a game farm 5 miles to the North of the Stockpoort border post at 12h30.

The runway was not used for more than a year with high grass. This is where the Magni came to its own right landing within 5 meters.

Sunday we returned to Thabazimbi flying past the Kransberg mountains to the north of it. The Kransberg mountains is one of the most breathtaking mountains in south Africa.

From Thabazimbi over the Waterberg mountains and back to solitude.

What is next ? We have started with the Limpopo so we should finish it. Next trip would be from Stockpoort, Pontdrif, Musina, and Tshipise.

WOW what a nice trip. The second leg of the Limpopo should be just as good as the first.

Enjoy.

Sounds like a nice trip. The bush must be beautifully green with all the rain?
