Nothing has changed. You apply the the relevant aviation authority and get a flight permit like you have always done. Hopefully in the future our neighboring states will recognise and adopt our system and we will not have to apply for a special flight permit. It is been worked on.

Now that is a bit k@k. What if we want to fly outside of SA? Has that been addressed?

By definition, an NPL is only valid in the country of issue. In Europe there are some co-operative agreements for countries to accept neighboring countries NPLs. Otherwise, a letter to the commissioner in the destination country will often get a temporary acceptance.

No idea how it will work in South/Southern Africa though...

Hi Stephan.

Thanks for the input.
One small error LSA is limited to 2 seats not 3 as per your post, we have also decided to move the stall restriction from 45kts clean to 45 kts in landing config.
There are 4 Category ratings namely LSA, CCM, WCM and GYR for Gyro,s, TMG Touring Motor Gliders to follow soon.
The official name is NPL NAtional Pilots Licence and refers to the fact as Stephan has stated to the fact that it is to be used inside the borders of SA.
There is not a Sports Pilots licence and Recreational Pilots Licence, however because we all for recreation the Recreational Pilots Licence is sort of an unofficial name.
However this does not mean that it cannot be used outside of our borders, it just mens that you would need to do a validation in another country before you can fly there.
Some countries would require you to write their Airlaw and do a check out flight, the same as foreign licences need to be validated before they can fly in SA.
For neibouring countries you need to get permission from their CAA or DCA.
Most of the ones we have spoken too have indicated a willingness to accept the NPL, in fact I have just delt with Namibia to get a local NPL instructor approved to give instruction in Namibia and they where very cooperative.
