I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure
Re: Clinton Phillips Suffers a stroke
I visited him again on Sunday - Initially (last Sunday) when the Stroke occurred to Friday, there was very little improvement with him remaining asleep most of the time with him infrequently opening his eyes and closing them and the odd squeeze from his left hand (His entire right side is paralyzed) although he didn't seem to respond to much verbal communication.
Over Saturday and Sunday, there seems to be a marked improvement, as he is a lot more awake and when you talk to him, he nods in answering questions and even manages the odd smile when a little humor is used.
His left hand side seems to be mobile, but he has no mobility and feeling in the right side of his body. The drip and nasal feeding tube has been removed as he can now be fed by syringe per mouth and can swallow.
During one of his feeds, he grabbed the syringe with his left hand and squirted 2/3 into his mouth - thereafter turned the syringe towards his brother and squirted the remaining 1/3 - so the sense of humor is still there.
He has been moved to the General ward C8 at Frere Hospital.
He gave a little smile when I threatened to take a photo of him in his "nappy" and post it on the forum Hopefully we will see more improvement as the days go by.

Holding thumbs for you Clinton. My brother in law had a stroke a few years ago and I know how difficult and intense the road to recovery is. Hang in there Clinton. There are many many people rooting for you. Take your time and listen to the doctors and therapists. Nice to hear about the sense of humour. Keep it, it will serve you well in times to come.
Strongs to you and your loved ones,
Andy

Re: Clinton Phillips Suffers a stroke
I got a chance to visit him this afternoon and there are definite signs of improvement. We managed to pick him up and place him in a wheel chair and take him to the hospital veranda for some fresh air - he is a lot more responsive, although seems to get very frustrated that he can't speak. I took a picture of him on the veranda....

FAWGie,
Your efforts and actions to assist a friend really give meaning to the word friendship. May Clinton have a speedy recovery.

Re: Clinton Phillips Suffers a stroke
Clinton was sent home Tuesday afternoon. He has starting to walk slowly with the aid of one crutch and some assistance. Still no speech except for "Ya" now and again.
He will still need constant care and supervision. Some things he seems to remember and other things not at this stage - from a physical health perspective he now seems fine - now for a long road to mental recovery & dexterity. He does smile a lot when spoken too....
The upside is that he has totally forgotten that he was a chain smoker and of course now doesn't smoke anymore
