27 July

Did a mere 20 minutes today. Not really in the mood for a windy afternoon, so called it a (short) day.

In that panoramic shot, Tafelberg is of course behind that mountain, which is Paardeberg.

Demons definition

Demon,

Well, if that is turbulance, then I must have experienced a mere fart (not clear air turbulance hehe). Would rather not experience your version, but I am sure I will, and want to be prepared when it happens.

Rock and Roll

What is the definition of severe turbulance? Today (see ZU-DVE log) I got caught in some turbulance where the tip of the wing must have dropped 2m since I experienced a 45 degrees or more deflection of the bar. Not quite what I need with only >20 hours, but probably good experience or warning. And w...

Sunday 24 July 2005

Got some skidmarks when flying from Kasteelberg towards Gouda when I hit some turbulence. My rudimentary knowledge of windflow tells me that the westerly wind was forced up as it approached the mountains to the east. I could have avoided it if I was higher - got calmer at 4000 feet but by then I was...

Saturday 23 July

Planned a trip over Paarl, but covered in cloud, so did a trip around Simonsberg, no turbulence. Then back to Wintervogel where Zerk and his student (didn't get his name) landed - and then for a trip to Blouberg and back. Now 33.3 hours, hope to do some more tomorrow. http://www.zu-dve.com/20050723....

ZU-DVE damn the weather

Been unable to get to ZU-DVE due to our Cape weather. In the meantime compiled a small video of my first week:

Be warned - 1.5M file.

Took Aneen for a trip - unfortunately windy and almost had her breakfast through propellor. Will try again on a less windy day, or look for new wife.

Why work when you can fly! A lovely day in Cape Town but lots of smog - the payoff for no wind. Flew over Koeberg at 2500asl - quite a view of those pressure cookers and the stream of water pumped into the sea. Looked at the new development north of Blouberg, and am glad I don't have to join all tha...
